Eight Dead In Golden State Limited Train Wreck
A Golden State Limited train through Alamo Gordo and across Pajarita Creek plunged into flood weakened trestle near Tucumcari at 3 20 Tuesday morning. Eight dead and over forty injured were reported as relief teams evacuated victims. Engineer C J Croft and Conductor Chauncey Depew survived, while a long list of injured and deceased, including passengers from California to New York, were gathered by Tucumcari doctors. The El Paso relief train arrived later Tuesday to aid the wrecked passengers.

Preliminary Hearing Set for Posey on Murder Charge

Death of Mrs. Sarah Bates in Orogrande
Mrs. Sarah Frances Bates, 62, died at her Orogrande home at 3 p.m. on August 30. She was the widow of Union veteran Wm R B Bates, who died in 1922. The couple, long-time Orogrande residents, moved from Tennessee in 1899 and had no children. Funeral services were held at the Geren Leadinghous Chapel in Alamogordo, with interment beside her husband in the local cemetery. Attending mourners came from Orogrande, Alamogordo, and El Paso.

Death of J P Creel Artist And Health Seeker La Luz
James P Creel Jr 27 a noted Kentucky landscape artist died after an appendicitis operation at a local hospital. He had come south for health and lived with his mother at La Luz New Mexico. The body may go to Lexington for burial once his father arrives. He and his mother survived a Golden State Limited wreck near Tucumcari while returning to Kentucky.
