Elmer C. Dockery Killed In Cloudcroft Line Accident
Elmer Carl Dockery a 58 year old brakeman on the Cloudcroft line was instantly killed Monday night when his car struck a railing at a culvert near Orogrande. Coroner H B Howerton led the inquest and the body was sent to El Paso for funeral services. Survivors include his wife Wanda and his parents F M and Mrs Dockery along with two sisters Hazel Butler and Frances M Dockery and brother Clarence C Dockery in El Paso.

USS Missouri to witness Japan surrender in Tokyo Bay

He was born August 20, 1870 in Bracketyville Texas and moved to New Mexico in 1889. He leaves his wife six children six grandchildren and one great grandchild along with two sisters.

The battalion was activated at Fort Bliss in 1942 and earned a presidential citation for aid in clearing the Colmar pocket. Johnny Collins son of John Collins of Alamoverdo arrived home on a 80 day furlough after duty with paratroopers in Joigny France.

Mike Brusuelas, son of Nep L Brusuelas of Tularosa, died April 30 1945 in battle on Okinawa. A letter from Company I officers explains he died quickly in an attack, received military honors in China-Way cemetery, and was praised as a brave, respected soldier. CPL Ernest W Simpson son of Mr and Mrs W Simpson of Tulareza New Mexico has completed 40 months overseas. He entered the Army in February 1941 trained at Fort Bliss and embarked for overseas in April 1942. Assigned to Battery 1B 126th Field Artillery Battalion of the 32nd Red Arrow Division he fought in New Guinea Leyte and Northern Luzon earning the Bronze Star, Philippines Liberation Ribbon, Purple Heart and Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with three campaign stars. He attended Vaughn High School and worked for Skousen Brothers Construction.

The death of Mrs. Julia La Rouge Martinez, 58, occurred at her home August 22 1945 after a 14 hour illness. Doctors diagnosed cerebral hemorrhage. Born July 26 1887 in Park View New Mexico she was the daughter of Carlos and (unreadable) La Rouge. Funeral services were held after Mass at St Marys church with Rev Father Torrandell officiating. Interment followed in the local Catholic Cemetery.
