Civic League public improvements committee led by Mrs. C. A. Garrett contemplates an assembly hall as a lasting source of pleasure and benefit. Frank W. Beach of the Alamogordo Improvement Co. offers a desirable lot free. Citizens are urged to discuss and lend assistance.
A court order in Otero County directs Alamogordo to be named a defendant with twenty days to answer. It requires the plaintiff to supply water to Alamogordo's main ditch weekly for one hour each first week, permit trees to be watered, and have the town conserve greenery. The Alamogordo Improvement Company may receive unused water, and injunctions bar diversion from Fresnal or La Luz creeks.
John Sherry returned from Orogrande where he aided U. S. surveyor T. A. Hayden to survey Copper Hill district claims. Mr and Mrs Jack Hollister from Sacramento mountain ranch came Saturday to prove up on their government claim. George Warnock and Bob Woodworth left Saturday for Warnock’s mine in the White Mountains and returned Monday. Charley R White won the contract for door and window frames of the new Kearney schoolhouse.
Jeud Suhief, a banker, faces a petition of protest over the course of taxation. The document cites 100 taxpayers signing in support of the protest and outlines preferred measures.
A petition signed by about one hundred Curry county citizens seeks impeachment and resignations of county commissioners Ben Crawford and Roy D Elder over a $3180 advertising contract for the delinquent tax list to State Senator T J Mabry. It accuses Mabry of graft and demands suits against the officials and their bondsmen.
Jacob H. Schiff, a longtime Republican, endorses Woodrow Wilson citing capital and labor strife and high living costs. He argues Taft failed to ease discontent and tariff pressures, urging practical policy over partisanship as Wilson would take office.
Fugitives Bert Kratz and Hargrave plus Devore were pursued from La Luz into High Rolls area. Kratz and Hargrave were arrested near Shamrock, while Devore fled toward Mayhill and Artesia before being captured in Artesia. All three were returned to Alamogordo jail. authorities alerted Carlsbad for transfer.
The lyceum course for next season will be organized by the ladies of the Presbyterian church. The Meistersingers quartette will return as the sole act from last year. Dates and each entertainment will be announced later. Miss Louise Bemis came back Sunday night from Cloudcroft after a stay there.
The Presbyterian church invites all to attend Labor Sunday with an 11 a.m. sermon on What the Bible says on Labor and 7:30 p.m. presentations by three ladies and three gentlemen on labor questions. Special music accompanies both services. K. B. Connell of Tularosa visited Alamogordo Saturday afternoon.
