Tula Rodeo Dates Announced For September Event
Plans for the Third Annual Tularosa Rodeo set for September 30 to October 2 were approved by a committee led by Gerald Champion. The program includes bronc riding calf rope bull dogging bareback riding bull riding goat roping and a death by own action race with day money prizes 30 20 and 10 and entrance fees 10 for three days. A morning race tournament features four horse classes and a parade will be held daily with entrants riding on day one and openness to all on days two and three.

Mescalero Indian Killed by Lightning Near Agency
George Peso a well known Mescalero Indian was struck by lightning last Sunday about midday ten miles above the agency. Three horses with him were killed instantly. Peso died at the Reservation hospital. Mariano Gallegos of Tularosa, present with Peso, was not severely injured.

French Named Town Clerk and Treasurer in Otero
At a Town Board meeting, R A Lon French was appointed to the post of Town Clerk and treasurer, succeeding Ed Le Breton who resigned after 20 years in office. French, previously with Hendrix McKinley Motor Co., has lived in Otero County since 1914 and in the Sacramento Mountains. Le Breton will devote time to the Otero County Credit Association and his fruit farm.

Lumber men resume work after weekend talks
Labor difficulties at Southwest Lumber Co mill and mountain camps ended over the weekend. About 300 workers walked out last Thursday over Carr logging operations. Union says Carr used non union labor and agreed to operate under a similar agreement as the mill.

Terracing Work in Perk Canyon Otero Co
A demonstration on August 18 in Perk Canyon on J. H. Lowell’s farm continues the two year terracing program in Otero county. Sponsored by the NM Extension Service, Leslie Beaty leads efforts to slow erosion on hillside farms growing cabbage lettuce and other vegetables with a view to seeding permanent pasture and clovers as soil protection. About 15 demonstrations are planned across Otero counties communities as the service expands contact with demonstrators.

Peach Mosaic Expert Extends Removal Program in Otero County
Robt N Annand state peach mosaic eradication supervisor at Alamogordo Hotel says the department will resume removing dead and diseased peach trees. In spring 3168 of 4314 infected trees were removed. 630 properties were inspected and 265 had mosaic trees. 230 were cleared. Annand will direct a WPA crew for owners who want removals. He notes 94.5 percent cooperation among Otero orchardists, 10 percent above state average.

Parrell Breece Dies in Albuquerque at 46
Parrell Parker Breece, 46, died at an Albuquerque hospital at 2 p m after an emergency operation for gall bladder infection following two weeks of illness. Funeral at French's Chapel, Albuquerque, Friday at 2 p m with Sunset Memorial burial. Breece, who came to Alamogordo in 1927 to lead Breece Lumber Co. mill, left a widow, his parents Colonel and Mrs. George E. Breece, brother Charles, and sisters Mrs. James Evans and Mrs. T. M Stribling of Albuquerque.

High School Plans Night Football At Local Stadium
Alamogordo officials and the softball league plan to stage night football at the old ball park in the south part of the city. They will upgrade lighting from 21 000 watts to about 33 000 watts with three new poles. Night games are expected to boost attendance and improve finances for a self supporting program.
