The Alamo Gordo publication notes the purchase of the Printing Company and plans to start a daily newspaper later this year. The Morgans mention moving to a new building with new equipment and inviting the public to an open house once settled.
Bob Koonce, Chamber secretary across from the tennis courts, notes morning glories in full bloom with many colors, inviting passersby to view the scene. He says the display is unusually bright this season and worth a look.
Leroy Foote an agent for Continental Air Lines says travel plans are advancing and he hopes to move his family on August 26. He owns a home at 1404 Florida and anticipates Continental planes starting service on September 1 with about six flights daily for Alamogordo.

The Otero County Game Protective Association will meet Wednesday night at the Fairgrounds building at 7:30 p.m. to discuss the new deer season and the killing of deer during that season. The gathering invites public input and will feature members of the state game commission to answer questions.
Equipment for conversion of the White Sands Theatre to CinemaScope was ordered last Friday, manager Cliff Keim said. Remodeling and installation plans are underway with a September start for showing CinemaScope pictures. stage removal and screen area construction are required. Prices for admission are expected to stay the same, and films are already purchased for the new format.
Otero County Rural Schools will register students Monday August 30 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Bus routes will pick up and return children. Textbooks will be issued Monday afternoon after registration. Two teaching vacancies exist pending new hires.
The 1954 Otero County Fair parade is set to begin at 10 30 a m on Sept 17 with C E Andy Anderson leading a parade committee meeting Monday night. Floats are urged from Alamogordo High Rolls Mountain Park Cloudcroft Mayhill Tularosa Bent and Mescalero and convertibles should be registered at the county agent for transport of attendees.
American Airlines announces end of pilot strike and expects remaining flights to be back on schedule this week. Some lights are already in operation and the full timetable is to be restored as work completes.
Principal Ross Lockhart announces expedited enrollment at Tularosa High with students in 7th through 12th grades registering on staggered days and times. 12th on Aug 27, 11th Aug 27 afternoon, 10th Aug 30 morning, 9th Aug 30 afternoon, 7th and 8th Aug 30 morning. Elementary enroll on Aug 30 at 9 am. Overall district enrollment expected not to rise more than about 10 percent from last year’s 700 students.
Ray Westfall, Central School principal, said all grade school students who failed to enroll Monday afternoon must register Wednesday morning from 9 to 12. School will begin Monday, Aug. 30, at 9 a.m. in all Alamo Gordo schools.
The Chamber of Commerce tour to Gene Rhodes grave scheduled for Sunday has been postponed because recent rains left roads almost impassable. Bob Koonce, chamber secretary, said the trip will be rescheduled at a later date and news outlets statewide are notified.
Three car collision on Highway 70 thirty miles west of Alamogordo at 12 30 am left one passenger seriously injured. Augusta C Grabbe of Tinsley Trailer Court suffered injuries and shock and was moved from the HAFB hospital to Gerald Champion Memorial. Drivers were Walter Ruscik of White Sands Proving Grounds and Quinie N Flint of State College New Mexico. State Patrolman Jim E Syling investigated as rain fell and ambulances from HAFB and Alamogordo responded. Cause not learned at press time.
Funeral services for Mrs. Frank Smith Jr., 1607 Hawaii, were at 10 a m Monday at Mullins Hamilton Funeral Home. Rev. Jesse Watson officiated with soloist Mike Julian and pianist. Survivors include husband Frank A. Smith Jr., two sons Frank A. Smith Jr. and Robert M. Smith, two sisters, and four grandchildren. Burial in Monte Vista Cemetery, Alamogordo.
Otero County commissioners were informed by C. O. Erwin and L. E. Wheeler that the two-mile gap into Weed Junction on FAS 1201 should be completed before the Denny bridge-Mayhill project FAS 1202. Funds are insufficient to finish both. plan is to complete the Weed Junction segment first using available federal funds and apply remaining to the Mayhill work, with an estimated $90,000 for Weed Junction and $133,000 for Mayhill.
A Monday night rain in Alamogordo brought about 1.8 inches of moisture in the Tularosa basin. Officials surveyed bridges and ditches with little damage reported as showers eased and several car accidents occurred near Highway 54 south of Tularosa.
Fireman Joe McCommis announced the downtown business district inspection showed very few fire extinguishers. About 20 extinguishers were found across 11 business houses, with several installed since the inspection.
Ed Webb a former Garden City Telegram compositor room superintendent becomes mechanical superintendent at the Alamo Gordo News. He starts Monday and will oversee all mechanical operations while moving his family to 310 Arnold Lane. Webb, born in Sapulpa Oklahoma, spent five years at Garden City and replaces Hubert Walker who left for The El Paso Times. He began printing in Drumright and served in the military 1942 to 1946.
John Barnes Ritter a prominent Southwestern sportsman and oilman died from injuries after a car crash on Highway 3 near Cloudcroft. Funeral services were held Saturday at Jesilla Park with hundreds in attendance. He owned The Lodge at Cloudcroft and resided in Mesilla Park with his family.
Alamogordo News completes a deal to acquire Morgan Printing Co. facilities at 901 Maryland, including building and printing equipment. The transaction enables a planned daily newspaper launch by December 1 and expands into commercial printing in Otero County.

Morgan Printing Co sells the newspaper on January 1 1954 to Billie older and Rolland Jacquart. The deal includes a 50 by 75 foot fronting building on Mary and Ninth streets with a 60 by 90 foot adjoining area and a 35 by 60 foot structure for a press and storage unit. Move from the Masonic building begins September 1 with brief suspension and simultaneous operation at both sites, fully moved by September 7. The Morgan family plans to dissolve the corporation and continue living in Alamogordo. The change entails an investment exceeding 100000 dollars to expand space for daily publication and advance journalism in Otero County. Further announcements will outline plans for daily publication. The public reacts with enthusiasm, viewing the move as faith backed by a substantial investment.
A special broadcast titled Wonderful City will air Wednesday from 4 30 to 5 p m on KALG. Harry Ditzler director of music at the New Mexico School for the Visual Handicapped will appear. The station urges all listeners to tune in.
