The Lincoln National Forest reports only 21 fires since January 1 with none exceeding ten acres. Heavy rains removed fire danger and most guards moved to road work. Eight fires were man caused, down from 28 last year. state totals show New Mexico 167 fires and Arizona 684 fires for the year.

Cattle Sale At Mescalero Reservation Nets About 50000 Dollars
At a Mescalero Indian reservation cattle sale on Friday nearly Low head were sold. The cattle netted the Indians nearly $50000 with seven hundred old cows at 58.55 a round and 48.55 after a ten percent cut back. Two hundred yearlings and steers sold at 50.05 a round while 28 bulls topped above 75 each. Range conditions on the reservation are described as the best in years as the range superintendent prepares for a round up this month involving about 3600 branded calves for winter handling.

Mrs John Berntsen died in an El Paso hospital prompting funeral services in Alamogordo. A Sweden native born 1866, she moved to America in 1890 and lived on a ranch before settling here. She was active in the Methodist church and charity work, with interment at Vista cemetery and her passing leaving a vacancy in Rotary luncheon service.
