Cunningham Plans Major Well Drilling at Burney Ranch
Charles A. Cunningham, a Santa Fe engineer, plans a large irrigation well at the Burney ranch to produce at least 500 gallons per minute. The project aims to reach 186 feet depth to the third water stratum, with a 12 to 16 inch bore and tests set for November. When active, alfalfa will be grown and the site used as a demonstration farm near the town.

Daring jail escape in Otero county three prisoners flee
Three inmates Devore Bert Kratz and Charles Hargrave overpowered jailer Jim Latham at the Otero county jail on a Friday evening. They used a lever system to open the cage door and fled after tying and gagging Latham. Miss Flossie Latham aided their exit by opening the outer door. A horse theft and manhunt followed toward La Luz and High Rolls, with Sheriff Hunter and other officers pursuing leads. Art Rolland named Carrizozo postmaster awaiting Senate confirmation.
