The Alamogordo Rainbow for girls and Alamogordo De Molay boys plan a joint picnic at White Sands on Friday evening August 20. Sponsors include Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star Advisory Board. Gathering point is Alameda Park front entrance with De Molays providing transport. Rainbow girls may reserve rides through Miss Ranell Beall.

Mrs R A Brown and Miss Barbara traveled to El Paso with Mrs Ward Curtis and children Grace Jenny and Esther. They plan to spend days sightseeing and ride the train back. Curtis will visit her aunt Mrs G T Thomason while in El Paso. Mr and Mrs Farl Newby, Kansas City artists, visited Cadwalladers and painted a highway sign. Family outings included drives through Cloudcroft Cox Canyon Penasco and James. The Teen-Agers presented a play with Peggy Edna Rodenbeck May Buck Sadie Newell and Pearl Frasier. Lanterns and candles kept the show going after electricity failed. Mrs Johnny Bagwell supported the effort. visitors included Mr and Mrs Herbert Bruhn Beverly and Lisa Bruhn and Raymond Buckner and son Mike with Dorothy Buckner of El Paso. Dallas Spencer of Hattiesburg now Pure Oil agent plans a Grand Canyon trip. Jomes Dyan of El Paso stays with Barbara Brown. The Bonnell family reunion at Heber Forehand place with Bonnells from Alamogordo and Ruizoso and Cloudcroft and Alamogordo ends with a sing and refreshments. This summer feels like a community homecoming.
Saturday August 22 1908 a marriage license was issued to Edward O Brownfield of Orange and Miss Kate Burt of Pinon. Two small sawmills are at work at Mountain Park one on the Beasley place and the other in Karr Canyon. John Rapier and W D Randle form a real estate partnership. G C Scipio works this week installing plumbing and furnace for the Baptist College dormitory.
Mrs Will Huss is reported recovering satisfactorily after surgery in Temple Texas and Mr Huss returned home Friday. Thomas Carter formerly of Roswell has taken a position as assistant clerk at the Lincoln National Forest office, transferring from the War Department and Walker AFB Roswell. his wife and child will join him.
Laurence D. Stueland, vicar, presides over August services at St Johns Episcopal Church Indiana Ave and 12th Street. Sunday mornings begin at Fight oclock.
Bible school starts at nine forty five each Sunday with sermons songs and communion from 10 40 to 12 noon Adults study Nehemiah 8 at 7 pm Children classes at 7 pm Sermon at 8 pm Ladies class 3 30 pm Tuesdays Bible study on Ephesians 1 at 7 45 pm Free singing Friday nights at 7 45 pm Public invited Minister Tice Elkins announces schedule.
Lightning struck the Cleve ranch barn near Elk on Monday starting a fire that consumed four hundred bales of tay. Mr and Mrs Bernard Cleve reported the loss while they were visiting Elk on Wednesday.
Washington Aug 14 The Pribilof Islands seal herd has returned to its size when bought from Russia 81 years ago. The Fish and Wildlife Service said the herd has yielded more than twice the value of the 1867 purchase price of 7.5 million dollars. The 1948 fur seal population on the Pribilofs is 3,837,131. Lady of La Luz feast day celebrated Sunday with vesper and high mass.
