Alamo juniors split two games with Tularosa teams Monday night. Stanley's beat the Tularosa Eaglets 10 to 9 while the Men's Store fell to the Tularosa Eagles 19 to 15. Fans found both games entertaining despite errors.
The third annual game of the year on the local softball field starts Saturday night at 7 30. Thrills spills hits and stunts promise a one of a kind show for softball fans with a second game being arranged later.
Alamo Vets defeated Carlsbad Vets 10 to 2 on Sunday afternoon. Curtis held Carlsbad to two runs with nine strikeouts, while Abeyta’s homer sparked a decisive rally in the third inning. Deporta pitched the final four frames allowing two hits.
The Alamogordo All Stars beat the Valley Grocers of La Tufia 9 0 in Las Cruces tournament. S Frn pitched a three hitter with nine strikeouts and one walk. B Fritz Pacheco Fuentes Wade S Fritz A Duran Hill led with multiple hits. The All Stars will play their second game Thursday night.
The Carlsbad Vets return for a Sunday game at the local baseball park. Nelo Malone will pitch for the Alamo Vets with either F Madrid or W Wade catching.
Alamogordo Lions Club distributes applications for square dancing lessons to form a club. Lessons cost 10 dollars per couple for ten sessions each Wednesday at the Community Center from September 7 to November 9. Instructor is Melvin Knox of El Paso.
Mrs G A Shipley local chairman reports the committee has allotted 500 of 1200 on hand for the national NSP to meet the polio emergency. She notes no new county cases this season and says some aid continues for long-standing patients. Fellow members on the drive include Mrs Albert Burch secretary and drive chair and Mrs M F Loggains treasurer.
A College Addition delegation asked the Town Board last Thursday to extend paving on Tenth Street from Washington Ave to Adams Ave and to extend sewer service. Mayor McKinley warned bond buyers may oppose financing where fronting lots are largely unimproved. Residents also pressed for street improvements on 12th Street and for alley drainage improvements, noting past yard flooding after rain.
Alaska Avenue from Twelfth to Thirteenth streets will be closed and fenced as school property after a Town Board resolution last Thursday. George Abbott, president of the Municipal School Board, requested the action to secure athletic fields between Tiger Field and adjacent grounds. The board reserves public utility right of way for water electric or telephone lines already enfranchised in town.
Town Attorney Allan Walker and Manager B E Katz were directed to prepare a lease proposal for Town lands in La Luz Canyon. Salvador Gutierrez asked to lease grazing lands, leading to a temporary lease on the former Castledine place and bid for full town land leases. Land remains unfenced with stock run at large.
Birth notices list multiple newborns and one stillborn along with parents and birth locations at Brooks General Hospital Bartlett Clinic Goveld Champion Memorial Hospital Gerald Champion Memorial Hospital and Florida Avenue in August. Names include Timothy James Lauderdale James Mitchell Virginia Louisa Ellis Karl Margarita Padilla Bruce Wayne and others.
Sheriff Wayne McCommis and state police seek Grace Romero 15 missing since last Sunday. Her mother Mrs Della Romero says she was last seen at Marchito Hall after a dance and a note claimed she was going to California with friends. Police interview acquaintances and check Albuquerque and Los Angeles leads.
Night class in Spanish instructed by Emil Wohlgemuth is starting soon at Tularosa. Contact phone 237 for details. The announcement lists class scope and location, highlighting the educator and venue for local learners.
Mrs C F Anderson of New York Avenue announces the marriage of Dorothy Louise Anderson to David T Stowell on August 7 in Las Cruces. Stowell, son of Mr and Mrs David Stowell of St Louis, will reside in St Louis while the couple locates an apartment. They met in Long Beach where Stowell managed a Howard Supply Co. branch and Dorothy worked in the Los Angeles main office. Dorothy graduated from Long Beach Poly Tech in 1945 while her father was stationed there.
Robert Badagher of Albuquerque has joined the State Police Force after training and examination and is assigned to Alamogordo. He is assisting Patrolman Al Hathaway in the area.
Mr and Mrs J L Brownie Sanders of Cuba Ave are on a ten day coast vacation traveling via the Grand Canyon to Santa Paula and Los Angeles California.
Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Brooks, uncle and aunt of Mrs. H. H. Brunell, depart Alamogordo after staying at the Brunell cabin in Ruidoso and visiting in Alamogordo with Mr. and Mrs. Uel Lane on Ohio Ave.
Mr and Mrs Jiggs Land arrived from Amarillo Texas today Wednesday to visit the Tice Elkins family. Mrs Land is the granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Tice Elkins.
Mrs. Ralph Armstrong received word last Friday that her father John I. Wright had died at his Fort Worth home after a months long illness. She had visited him in May and part of June.
Mrs. Bob, a longtime friend from San Francisco, visits the Shields family while Mrs. Harvey visits friends in Roswell. The social notes highlight ongoing cordial ties among local households and out of town guests.
