Funeral services for Mrs Sallie Pierce held at Baptist Church
Funeral services for the late Mrs Sallie Pierce were conducted by Rev. Earl R. Keating at the Baptist Church Saturday afternoon at 2 30. Interment was in Mt Vista cemetery. A large funeral cortege accompanied the body. The pastor praised her character as lovely and useful while friends and relatives filled the church. Miss Hazel Pierce sang three hymns. Immediate relatives attended including Mrs Pierce’s daughters Mrs Jessie Cushman Santa Fe Miss Hazel Alamogordo stepdaughter Mrs George Duncan El Paso sons Conway Chicago Norman Oklahoma Max Pierce California a daughter Mrs James and Mr James Globe Ariz. Friends and relatives from across the Southwest attended. A life sketch appeared in the News August 11 and Miss Anna Latham contributed a tribute.

In Cloudcroft Justice D M Barringer fined Bill King of Hot Springs $50 after State Trooper W T Speight charged him with operating a gambling game. Speight said he warned operators Saturday, then found a dice game at the Red Barn that night and arrested King after seizing two hidden slot machines.

Burglary at High Rolls Post Office and Store
Sheriff’s office investigated a Friday night robbery at the High Rolls post office and Charles Bell Store. A burglar tore a hinge free basement door, unlocked the safe, taking about 95 dollars in receipts including cash and money orders, plus a jar of store change about 20 dollars. One known track found suggests multiple suspects. Bells were away at a movie, returned to discover the loss Saturday morning.
