Heavy Flood Destroys La Luz Bridge on Highway 83
Intense rains in La Luz Canyon washed out the Bridge on State Highway 83 just north of La Luz. Half of the structure remained attached to its bank while the rest washed downstream. Replacement plans involve state and district highway engineers arriving to coordinate. Traffic rerouted via Road 54 70 toward Cloudcroft and the old La Luz route with a temporary crossing. Some officials favor opening Dry and Box Canyon road as an alternative to rebuilding the washed-out bridge.
