The Alamogordo public schools announce a September 4 opening. Freshman through senior classes have specific placement days August 17–22 with 9am and 1pm times. New pupils may attend any open hour. Emphasis on punctuality, preparation, neatness, and abstaining from tobacco to foster best student performance.
Traveling Auditor John Joerns reports across New Mexico institutions a July 1 balance of 79,830.78 with detailed receipts and disbursements for each entity. Notable balances include the Penitentiary at 19,024.71 and UNM at 2,364.30, among others.
Wilson Mills son of Governor Mills and Yale 1910 now studying law at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor works part of vacation in the law office of Renehan and Davis. He labs in the capitol law library on a big brief appealed to the territorial supreme court. Mills earned a place among ten Woolgack Club selections from 300 law students at Ann Arbor.
The Texas Magazine’s August issue features William H. Woodwell’s descriptive article on camping in the Sacramento Mountains in Alamogordo during early summer 1908. Photos show Box canyon and Sacramentos scenery including the Tularosa valley. June coverage highlighted Tularosa and its canyon.
A Rock Island and Southwestern delegation led by H M Cottrell and Alvin Steiner visited Alamogordo and nearby areas this week. They toured irrigation sites and farms including the Carl place and Wadsworth Kanady holdings, praising Alamogordo and Tulafosa as garden spots of the Southwest. Hawkes and Steiner plan articles and photos to promote regional development.
Railroads in New Mexico offer round trip tickets for a single fare to the New Mexico State Fair in Albuquerque from October 7 to October 16. The fair runs October 9 through 14, with tickets on sale October 7 and valid through October 16.
Mrs J J Sanders and dozen companions including Bar ney Ed Mae Nellie Sanders Louis Reed Dr O A Miller and wife Mrs T L Gee Hazel Shelton Olive Thomas Mrs E T Gunton and daughter Margaret traveled to Ruidosa on Wednesday for a two day to two week outing with some planning to return via Cloudcroft.
Mrs G J Wolfinger and Louis departed Tuesday afternoon aboard the limited train for a month on the Pacific coast.
Henry S. Evans O. Ke. Thom as and J. L. Lawson traveled to High Rolls and Mountain Park Saturday afternoon to spend Sunday with their families.
The Carlsbad Current reports the first car of New Mexico Elberta peaches arrived in New York on July 28 from Rio Pecos orchard, Carlsbad. Packed in California style boxes, the fruit impressed buyers with perfect color and size. The initial price around 1.60 may rise with the next shipment.
O. R. McCalmont, cashier for the El Paso and Southwestern at Carrizoto and former Alamogordo cashier, spent Sunday with his family. Miss Predarica Greenberg of Three Rivers returns home from summer work at Silver City Normal and visits her sister, Mrs. A. G. Carlson, for a week.
Glenn H. Curtiss signs with the New Mexico Fair Association for two daily flights in Albuquerque during Fair week October 9 to 14. It remains unsure whether Curtiss or an associate aviator will perform, with pilots McCurdy Ely Beachey Ward Witmer among possible flyers. Two flights daily on three days, one reaching at least five hundred feet. The state fair aviation meet promises strong attendance and prominence.

Caruso denies being the world's greatest tenor while fashion lauds retiring at ten. A year passes without an aeronaut dying. Taxi drivers set a one cent per mile rate. A noted prima donna opts for minor roles.
The Crop Reporting Board of the Bureau of Statistics reports the cotton crop condition on July 26 at 89.1 percent of normal. This compares with 88.2 on June 26, 1911, 75.5 on July 26, 1910, 71.9 on July 25, 1909, and 79.4 the ten year average.
R B Armstrong spent Sunday at High Rolls visiting familiar spots and enjoying a quiet day away from routine duties.
A humorous ball game pitted the Insurrectos against the Federals. Cuellar Pelphrey struck out ten for the Federals, while Orozco Jim Saulsberry fanned eleven for the Insurrectos. Escudero Dean Sherry relieved Cuellar and dominated with two strikeouts, one hit allowed.
