Death Of Well Known Southwestern Woman Mrs R E Blaney

The death of Mrs R E Blaney occurred at Carrizozo on Friday July 41. She had lived in Oscuro and Carrizozo for nearly thirty years and was active in education in Lincoln County for over two decades including four years as county school superintendent from 1919 to 1923. Funeral services were held in Carrizozo’s Methodist Church with burial at Angus cemetery. She leaves husband Dr Blaney a sister Mrs E D Prehm two nieces and three nephews. Funeral attendees included clergy from the Methodist and Baptist churches.

Crosbys Purchase The Liberty Bakery Continues As Mity Nice

Mr and Mrs Crosby have bought the Liberty Bakery equipment and business from Henry Carr and will operate it as Mity Nice Bakery. Crosby, a baker with 25 years of experience, relocated from Wink Texas a little over a year ago to run the shop. The business continues under the same name with new ownership.

Alamogordo Band School lists groups and schedules

The Band School run by Alamogordo Public Schools divides into Beginner Junior and Senior groups. Beginners meet 2:00–2:30 reed and flute then 2:30–3:00 brass and drums. Junior group meets mornings 9:00–10:30 with instrument blocks. Senior band rehearses 8:00–9:00 nights Monday Wednesday Friday. Details list new members by instrument.

Auto Crash North of Alamogordo Claims Two Lives

A Monday 2:00 am accident between Alamogordo and Tularosa left J. B. Crockett of Deming injured with a broken rib and punctured lung but recovering, while 15-year-old Billie Burnette died from a broken neck after the automobile shed the guard rail and plunged into a deep arroyo. Burnette’s sister and brother in law from Phoenix and his mother from Dayton are en route.

Death of J M Goble Ends 13 Year Alamo Godro Resident

J M Goble long known in Alamogordo died in Phoenix Arizona last Thursday at age 48 from a sudden heart attack. Funeral services were held at 4 p m at the G L Mortuary with Rev Ed Leaveton officiating. He relocated with his family to seek health after years of poor health and leaves a widow and two sons.

Simon Lake proposes silent submarine cargo carriers

Washington August 3 Senate subcommittee hears Simon Lake 75 year old inventor present a secret silencing device to enable a fleet of submarine freighters capable of carrying 7500 ton loads. He says shipyards could convert to submarine building using Liberty ship gear and that cargo subs could run 12 knots on the surface or eight knots submerged. He estimates 2 125 000 per ship with first unit in five to six months and promises stealth to outpace undersea and surface rivals.

Time for Filing Capital Stock Tax Extended to Sept 29 1942

Albuquerque March 8 P Vidal Collector of Internal Revenue announces extension of the capital stock tax filing and payment period to September 29 1942. Collectors may accept returns without penalties or interest if filed and tax paid by the extended date. Returns will be mailed to corporations that filed last year. 23rd Annual 4H Camp Set for Aug 17 21 at N M College

The 23rd annual State Club Camp will be held on the New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts campus August 17 to 21. About 200 club members county extension agents and local leaders from 25 counties expected. Registration is $5 covering meals and lodging. Officers Raid Gambling Halls in Ruidoso NM

In Ruidoso six gambling halls were raided by officers Friday night resulting in confiscation of slot machines and related devices. Nine cases are pending district court action in Lincoln County with District Attorney M. A. Threet overseeing. Artesia Party Lost In The Mountains

A group from Artesia traveling via Alamogordo and Mescalero strayed through Tularosa Canyon and La Luz Canyon. The two parties split with E K and two sons returning to their car near Cloudcroft after wandering Nogal Canyon. J F with daughter and nephew also headed for Cloudcroft but wandered hills until an Indian guided them to Apache Canyon before reuniting with a search party and notifying the Alamogordo sheriff.

Sutton Receives First Lieutenant Commission

Charles Sutton, Lincoln National Forest official, was commissioned as First Lieutenant in the U S Army and ordered to Miami Beach Florida this Saturday. He and Vance Thomas were Alamogordo High School seniors who enlisted at the start of World War I and served in France.
