A delegation from Artesia presents a morning show on Saturday August 5 at 11 45 on the Alamo Gordo courthouse lawn. The event publicizes the fourth annual V J Day celebration August 10 11 and 12 organized by the Artesia unit veterans club. The schedule includes a Thursday parade at 4 pm with giant balloons floats bands cowboys and sheriff’s passes from Southeast New Mexico and Texas. Rodeo performances run each evening at Artesia municipal stadium with stock provided by Howard Brown of Dublin Texas and western dances after each rodeo in the Veterans Memorial building.

Education aid bills in Congress could boost Alamogordo schools
Alamogordo Superintendent W Barnie Caton returned from an eastern trip with news of two House bills that could aid local schools. HR7940 would replace the direct finance system with a 100 percent per capita cost reimbursement for military area students, 75 percent for base employees, and 50 percent for residuals. HR8113 may provide up to 450000 for an expanded building program in impacted areas. Caton says passage looks likely as schools nationwide push for support before Congress adjourns.

Life of Woodside Telegraphist and Rancher Remembered
Frank Woodside born February 12 1872 in Millers Station Pennsylvania. He moved to Alamogordo in 1908 with his wife and worked for the Fl Paso Southwestern and later Southern Pacific railroads as telegrapher agent and station master. He retired in 1940 as Southern Pacific agent at Tularosa after 82 years in railroad service. He died of a heart attack in Carrizozo while in his car in front of Akers Drug Store. Survivors include son Gilbert Woodside of Lubbock Texas and three grandchildren Frank Vivian and Kathryn of Lubbock.

Graveside services were held Monday, July 31, for Christine Lucero Johnson the stillborn daughter of Mr and Mrs Pete Johnson of 405 Pennsylvania Avenue. The child was born the day before at Champion Memorial Hospital and burial was in the Catholic cemetery here. Arrangements were by Mullins O Dell.
