The Union County Farmers Union held its annual meeting in the Walnut Grove school house with Brule Local entertaining. Chairman Hans Wagner opened the meeting and a talk on state organization activities followed. Officers were reelected: President Lewis Peterson, Vice President Leonard Swanson, Secy Treas Mrs Mike O Connor, Educational Dir Mrs Lewis Peterson, Board Members Dennis Danielson Waldemar Peterson Oxvat F Anderson Mike O Connor, Publicity Director Herman Jacobs. A Get Well card for Mike O Connor, injured in a tractor accident, was signed. The group planned an upcoming election year meeting to discuss legislative matters at Alcester Auditorium with all county candidates invited. A Brule Local lunch was served. Marshall Townsend 46 of Ames has accepted the honorary Iowa Christmas Seal Campaign chairmanship for 1962. He is manager of the Book Publishing Division at Iowa State University Press and a former ITHA president. Townsend has long served in TB health work and public service in Ames and Story County, with leadership roles in Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce, and journalism groups.
