Mrs Welch returned from a week in North Dakota visiting relatives via Frontier airlines routing through Denver and Kansas City then Omaha before bus to Sioux City. She reports North Dakota crops strong with wheat forty bushels, barley oats sixty to eighty and flax not yet harvested. Notice to Westfield residents: Norbert Isert will not seek re election to the Town Council with five councilmen at large mayor and treasurer to be elected on November 4. filing deadline about Oct 7.

Notes include Edwin Hillrichs death at 39, births in September 1949, a co champion of the plow terrace contest near West Point Nebraska, and the Hawarden hospital death of Mrs. Bernard Weyer. Also covered are sports trips to St Louis Akron LeMars baseball games and local school and community notices from earlier decades.

Zelpha Nystrup argues in a letter to the editor that the town should support a stable clothing and shoe store supply rather than rely on outside aid. She urges residents to build up local commerce and minimize hand-outs from external organizations as they plan for future years.
Johnson Township Farm Bureau women gathered at Ruth Morehead's home on September 9, 1969. Devotions opened the meeting, followed by the pledge. Alice Willer shared photos from the A.C.W.W. Convention in Lansing. They held a business session, sang old songs, and planned Rural Urban Day for September 23 at the Fair Grounds. The next meeting will be with Hope Lucken on October 15.
The bulletin urges planning for the 1970 crop with soil testing from Iowa State University for 2 per sample and fall fertilizer timing. It notes hay crop strength and silage timing, plus weed control. In nursing education, Sisters of Mercy announce a two year accelerated RN program at St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing Sioux City, with August 1970 start, NLN accreditation, and local clinical experiences.
In 4B there are 30 students with 13 girls and 17 boys. They started fourth grade readers Ventures and Open Highways groups study addition and subtraction and plan multiplication later. Social studies intro ends as forest regions loom. Science covers how a scientist works. Time and the Stars unit begins with shadow sticks to tell time. Language books arrive to learn sentence types. In 5B there are 14 girls and 14 boys with four teachers. Mrs. Baker teaches language arts and spelling, Mrs. Johnson teaches math, Mrs. Lias teaches social studies, and Mr. Bouwman teaches science and reading. The class struggles to readjust after summer. Sixth grade social studies plans a Mexico trip in four groups with group leaders and reference materials gathered in class. Fifth grade finished studying the first explorers of the continent with bulletin board pictures. The music class enjoyed composing a melody for a poem. The art class makes rockets for the parade.

The Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee announced the election of township ASC committeemen by mail ballot. Ballots were counted publicly September 18 at 9 00 a m in the County Office. The township chair, vice chair, and third regular member become county convention delegates. alternates become alternate delegates. The county convention is September 27 at 9 30 a m at the County Office. Delegates later pick the regular committee chair and vice chair for the year. The ASC administers local programs including Cropland Adjustment, feed grain, wool, acreage allotments, marketing quotas, and loans.
