Stolen Car Recovered After Chase At Sand Pit
Police pursued a thief who had stolen a car and stripped it of accessories. He fled into a nearby cornfield where the vehicle stalled and he escaped. Stolen parts from the Elliott car were recovered. L. W. Koeh won the local golf championship by defeating Dr. N. J. Brown 6 and 5 in Akron Club finals last Sunday.

Disability protection for farmers under social security
For self employed farmers October 1 1959 marks the first time they gain social security disability protection. The SSA has paid disability claims for over two years but farmers needed 20 quarters of covered work in the prior 40 to qualify. They entered in 1955 and will meet the work test after 1959 with earnings of at least 400 dollars yearly from 1955 to 1958 and in 1959, and must be unable to perform any gainful work. The next article will cover the disability requirement more fully.

Deadline Nears for First 1960 Soil Bank Signup
The Plymouth county ASC chair Wm M Schnepf warns farmers the September 10 deadline nears for the first step to join the 1960 Soil Bank Conservation Reserve. Farmers must request the county ASC set a basic annual rate per acre, with August 24 to September 10 as the filing window. After rates are set, farmers may apply for a contract below the basic rate and will be notified of contract return dates. Participants receive cost sharing for approved practices and annual rental payments for the contract life. Contact the county office for details before September 10.

Local Woman's Brother Dies in Sioux City
Carl W. Allen 65 of Sioux City died at a hospital Tuesday September 8 after a brief illness. A carpenter for Goodwill Industries he was born April 14 1897 at Elk Point. Survived by daughter Marjory Hoffman of Sioux City four sisters and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday at Wesley Methodist Church with burial in Memorial Park.

Man Fined and License Suspended For OMVI
Dean Harmon of Sioux City Iowa was fined 300 and costs and his operator license suspended for 60 days by Judge T F Klay in LeMars on September 2 1959. Harmon charged by County Attorney William S Sturges with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated on September 1 1959. He was arrested by Hinton Officer R E Rippey after a citizen reported him on Highway 75, brought to Plymouth County Jail, and held until the fine is paid. He was ordered committed to jail for 90 days until the fine is paid. Earlier, Judge T E Klay revoked the suspended sentence and parole of Ronald Clifford Davis for Uttering a Forged Instrument, sending him to serve ten years at Anamosa. Davis was involved in forging checks in LeMars with Donald E Kepner. Also, John Dennis Campbell of Newport Tennessee was fined 300 and costs and license suspended 60 days and liquor permit revoked for OMVI. he must serve 90 days if the fine is not paid. A six day fall quail season opens Oct 7 and runs to Oct 13 in Tripp, Gregory, Charles Mix, Bon Homme, Yankton, Clay and Union Counties.
