Samuel Colt’s early life and invention success

After leaving Amherst, Samuel Colt served at sea and conceived the revolving pistol cylinder from a paddle wheel. At 14 he built a working model. He later left his father’s dye plant to pursue fortune as Dr Coult, and in 1832 submitted his gun plan to the U S patent office receiving a patent in 1836. He died wealthy at 48.
