Akron Register-Tribune editors and proprietors Ray A and Gerald F. Smith publish weekly in Plymouth County Iowa. The paper lists subscription rates: $2.50 per year, six months $1.25 in local counties, $3.00 per year elsewhere.
The Harvest Supper at Westfield Congregational Church is set for Thursday September 29 starting at 5 30 pm with adults 1.25 and children under 12 50. P T A notes include corsages for staff and student solos by Miss Verna French and Mr Peterson. The Community Building has been returned to the Westfield Community School and refurbished with funding from the school. Government Title I furniture supports remedial reading classes for junior high and high school. The Tuesday Club still owns the land hosting activities benefiting the library.
A September 8 1866 meeting of the West Held Community School Board approved an additional welder and cutting torch to give all in class daily welding access and discussed hiring a remedial reading aide. Eldon M. Seely, clerk of Sioux Valley Township in Union County South Dakota calls a special meeting of electors for September 20 1966 from 1 to 4 PM at the township hall. The vote will decide funding to buy a new road maintainer with dozer and snow plow attachments, trading in the current equipment as part of the price.
Social Security officials announce new special benefits for residents aged 72 or older who do not qualify under old law. Monthly amounts range from 35 dollars for a single person up to 52.50 dollars for a couple, payable starting October 1966. Benefits are reduced by any other government pension and not payable to State welfare recipients. Paul H. Patterson will visit Sioux City area offices and Hawarden City Hall on September 21, 1966 to assist with information.

Mrs Emily Turnell of Union County dies at Bethesda Home for the Aged near Berns dad after four years there. Born August 80 1881 in Sioux Valley township she was married to Joseph Tunell in 1908. Survived by daughter Lillian Steeneck Loomis California another daughter Della Jarvis Sturgis SD son Oliver Tunell Sioux Falls eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral held at Ninethanel Luther church with Rev Irvin Lovseth officiating. Interment Pleasant Hill cemetery. Pallbearers named.
Seegar opens on fox and gray squirrels and cottontails with rabbits starting Saturday September 10, per the State Conservation Commission. Squirrel bag limit is six and possession limit twelve. season ends January 2, 1967. Rabbit season runs to February 19, 1967 with daily hours 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM and bag limit ten with no possession limit. Statewide open for both rabbit and squirrel hunts. residents 16 and older eligible to hunt.
Commissioner Gene Neeiles announces Mel Hove of Oelwein as the new Safety Education Division field man for the Iowa Department of Public Safety. A 28 year highway patrol veteran, Hove will cover the northwest state with headquarters in Storm Lake. As a lieutenant he helped launch the Oelwein voluntary vehicle safety pageant, earning the Circle of Safety Grand Award for eight years. Ben H. Ploof praises his experience and enthusiasm.
The Friendship and Service Club held its first meeting of the year at Mrs. Dennis Wilken's home on September 1. Sixteen members and two guests attended as Mrs. Mike McLane welcomed them and the program committee distributed new club books.
