Expo '74 trip highlights Walter Heyl and group
A nine person Akron pair joined a 40-member South Dakota Farmers Union motor coach tour to Spokane for Expo 74. They traveled via Devil's Tower and the Big Horns, spent two days at the fair site, toured Glacier National Park, and visited multiple landmarks in Montana and Canada before heading home. The trip showcased environmental themes and union-sponsored travel. Also, Butch Butters of Independence reeled a 42 pound 3 ounce flathead catfish from Cedar River.

A 240 acre Charles Lang estate farm near Remsen sold at public auction last week for 360800 dollars, believed the highest price for Plymouth county farm real estate. Improved 160 acres went to Mrs Joe Reuter of Sheldon for 1500 per acre and unimproved 80 acres to Melvin Tentinger of Remsen at 1500 per acre.

The Union County Farm Bureau held a bread baking contest on Monday August 26 at 8 p.m. in the Alcester city auditorium. Winners were Agnes Peterson first Myrtle Tweet second and Robert Wendell third. Peterson will represent Union County at the state baking contest. Judges were Mrs Steven Ericson and Mrs James Leaf stedt. Reports on the Brookings citizenship seminar were given.
