Akron Public Schools opened the 1962-53 term with 466 students, up 31 from last year. Kindergarten led gains with 61 pupils, while Junior High held steady at 103 and Senior High fell slightly to 106 due to dropouts.
Baseball fans are urged to attend the final Akron versus Sioux Center game Friday evening. Sioux Center, 29-2, seeks to preserve its strong record while Akron hopes to avenge a 6 to 3 loss on July 18. An "Appreciation Night" is urged to boost attendance and support for a possible team next year.
Divine worship is at 11 o clock each Sunday with Sunday school at 10. Infant baptism will be administered at the worship hour this Sunday. A retreat for Methodist laymen from the North Iowa Conference is at Clear Lake this weekend. District Conference for Sioux City District at Holstein next Thursday September 11 from 9 to 4. WSCS meets next Wednesday at 2 30. Youth Fellowship meets Wednesday night. Public school teachers reception on Wednesday evening September 17. Trinity Lutheran Church services at 10 30 with Sunday school at 9 30 and Luther League at 8.00. Mission Circle meets Tuesday evening. St Math Luth, Chatsworth service at 8 30 and Sunday school and Bible class at unknown time.

Vera Buryanek and Donald Diediker wed at Westfield Congregational Church in a candlelit ceremony August 28 1952. Attended by family and friends, the couple planned a Martinsburg Nebr home, with a northward wedding trip and future teaching and farming links noted.
Westfield Congregational Church announces morning worship at 9 30. Sunday school at 10 30 with classes for all ages including an adult Bible class. Choir practice Thursday at 8 p m. Pilgrim Fellowship meets Sunday at 7 p m. Ladies Aid serves a 75 cent supper Thursday September 11 from 6 to 8 p m. Reservations to Mrs Mabel Lilly.
West Side Church of Christ holds Bible school at 10:00 a.m. and worship at 11:00 a.m. Lord's Supper, sermon, prayer, and Bible study occur weekly Thursday evenings. This week’s meeting is at the Mackey home. Pastor Dean R. Orris invites all to worship next Sunday at the Legion Hall.

Utile Dulce Club hosts a 6 PM pot luck at Methodist church basement on Tuesday September 9. Frances Miller returns from polio treatment in Sioux City. Several families attend Frank Thiesen funeral at Lester Iowa. Mrs George Shhindler injured in fall, treated at St Vincent's Sioux City, improving at home. Ole Silkebakken returns from three months in Norway. John Sykes returns from Colorado trip with relatives. Wayne Miller ill with polio. Irene Miller aids at home hospital. Miss Lorraine Utesch and Judson McDougall Jr. wed at St. Pauls Lutheran in Johnson township on August 29, 1952, in a candlelit double ring ceremony. Attendants, music, and a reception followed for about 200 guests. The bride, a LeMars High School alumna, and the groom, a Westmar College student, plan to live in LeMars after a ten day honeymoon through the Black Hills.
Medical patients listed include Homer Haines of Westfield and Edward Klauer of the city alongside Mrs Fay Smith south of town. Surgical patient Mrs Errast Anderson southeast of town is also noted.

Akron defeated Primghar 5 to 1 in a closely played game led by Morey Blum on the mound for Akron. Primghar capitalized early with hits but could muster only three scattered singles as Akron pulled away with a four run first inning and added a third inning score to seal the win at home.
