Well Known Akron Business Man Is Called by Death

Frank Montagne, Akron entrepreneur and Montagne Recreation Parlor head, died August 27 1943 after a two year illness from a lung infection. He was 66 and survived by his wife Martha and four children Burnice James Dorothy and John Wilfred, plus three sisters and a brother. His son James Russell Montagne was killed in action January 30 1943 in the South Pacific.

Akron public school enrollments dip again

Enrollment across thirteen grades totals 3384 on opening day, down 16 from last year. High school grades ten to twelve show 106 students, versus 129 previously, while seventh to ninth grade totals slip slightly. Fourth and Eighth grades fall modestly, Fifth shows a notable gain as staff report normal start with smooth study rhythm and football prep under coaches Dysard and McCord for Hawarden clash September 10.

The Mission Circle of Trinity- St. Matthew Lutheran churches served take and coffee to soldiers of the Air Base at Sergeant Bluff G. 8. 0., Monday evening. The ladies enjoyed an outing and picnic at Garretson Park en route to the U. S. QO. parlors at Sergeant Bluff. The Indies feel well repaid for this new venture, which was enjoyed by all.

Akron Ball Club Too Much For Brandon South Dakota

The Brandon team hosted Akron Sunday, losing 8 to 2 as Akron pitched by Tucker held Brandon to three hits and seven strikeouts. Akron collected thirteen hits and capitalized with timely hitting including Hartman Swalley and Peek scoring on singles while Brandon struggled with two pitchers who were ineffective.

Frank Port longtime western Plymouth county resident died at his Brunsville home Monday August 28 1943 after a five year illness Born February 28 1867 in Davenport Iowa he moved to Plymouth county in 1885 He was a farmer with a threshing crew survived by wife Mary Beile McInnis nine children two brothers and three sisters Funeral services were held Saturday at Plymouth Presbyterian Church Johnson Township with interment in the local cemetery Pallbearers included Chas Brodie Abraham Miller Victor Taylor Sterling McKinnon and George Nobles
