Ray A. Smith publishes a weekly Akron Town newspaper with a subscription rate of four years for two dollars six months for one dollar and three months for six hundred. The paper is issued every Thursday and is entered at the post office as second class mail matter dated September 26, 1901.
Special correspondence from Milnerville covers Farm visits by Mrs T B Cassen and Mrs Ernest Richards with a plan to Akron, a belated wedding of Vance Hunter and Hazel Peters, family visits in Sioux City and Roslyn, radio contest winnings by Mrs Milner, illness of a Hancock township student, Dr Milner's University of Iowa completion and travels, PTA meeting notes, and local injures. The column also notes juries drawn from Plymouth county and citizenship filings in Sioux City.
Community announcements describe visits and travel among Akron Sioux City and Palo Alto residents. Mrs. Hummel and Mrs. Welch join family gatherings. St Catharine Guild meets. art week event planned. Ladies' Aid rummage sale to benefit community causes. Ed Spaulding and family news. and Chevrolet price increases announced with new delivered prices at Flint Michigan.
Chevrolet publicized its new 1938 passenger car prices last Friday as new models hit 9,600 dealer showrooms nationwide. Price increases range from 3.4 percent to 5 percent, about $26 to $34 per model, with the Master DeLuxe sedan up $26 from $770 to $796. Most models rise under $30, seven by less than $30 and five by $30 to $34, including the Master Sport Sedan, and the new prices include the A. E. E. accessories such as bumpers and spare tire.
Akron earns its first victory in two years by defeating Kingsley 12 to 0 in a Homecoming game. Akron’s defense held Kingsley on downs near their own goal line and a late scoring drive sealed the win as Akron capitalized on key passes and a disputed extra point.
Akron's defense stifled Kingsley's attack, holding them to limited gains and forcing losses, while Akron's offense showed strong seasonal form despite stalls. Kingsley had been beaten only once prior, by Onawa, highlighting the vigor of Akron's win and setting up a Friday meeting with East High Reserves.
On October 2 1937 the District Court of Plymouth Iowa appointed Besselias administratrix of Karl M Lias deceased. All creditors must file claims with authentication for court allowance and debts paid to the administratrix. Published October 7 14 and 21 1937.
Clover 4 H girls met October 23 at Miriam Adams home to discuss What We Gained from 4 H and How We Could Better Our 4 H A grape fell contest awarded first prize to Blanche Bultman and second to Miriam Adams Three visitors acted as judges Songs and games were played A vote urged each girl to bring items to raise funds for the treasury Next meeting set for November 20 at Darlene and Marjorie Robertson home Contacts urged at the Register Tribune office.
