Induction orders canceled amid wartime furlough suspensions

A telegram from Provost Marshal General Crowder directed suspension of furloughs and cancellation of pending inductions. In Plymouth county 45 men were affected who were due to depart October 22 for Camp Movethin, Gabtoritia. Officials plan to complete registrant checklists and issue order numbers, as classifications proceed for September registrants aged 18 to 36.

Akron Soldier Cale Neal Dies in Ames of Influenza

Private Cale Burdette Neal, 21, son of Mr and Mrs EK Neal, died October 1 1918 at Ames Iowa from Spanish influenza while stationed with the Third Training Detachment after a brief illness. Born May 88 1897 in Porting township, Miymouth county he lived on the family farm until enlisting. He was educated at Ames State College and Notre Dame. Burial at Riverside cemetery followed a service by Rev M F Spahr with local pallbearers. Relatives include Bert Tyson of Stuart and Lewis Neal of Chancellor among others.

Death of Lester Burrill Reported at Notre Dame

Friday night telegram from W. W. Tsurrill informed of the serious illness of Lester R. Burrill at Notre Dame University in South Bend. A subsequent telegram Saturday morning announced his death at about 1 oclock p m. Burrill, born in Johnson Township Plymouth County Iowa, cited as the deceased in this report.
