A nationwide survey by Opinion Research Corporation found 93 percent favor avoiding forced union membership and a majority support voluntary membership. The poll shows growing awareness of right to work laws and limits on unions, with calls for anti trust action and tighter controls. The Central Constructor notes the public favors limiting labor power over broad labor hostility.
SP4 LeRoy A Rozell returned October 8 to his rural home four miles east of Akron after 18 months in Korea. He will spend his last year at Fort Riley Kansas. He traveled from Korea to San Francisco by boat then flew to Omaha and rode a transport to Sioux City, reuniting with his parents Mr. and Mrs Art Rozell.
Approximately 704000 will be available for Iowans to receive training under the Manpower Development and Training Act of 1962, the Iowa Employment Security Commission said. The Department of Public Instruction will get 220000 and the Iowa Employment Security Commission 484000 for the fiscal year ending June 3, 1963, with 877270 for maintenance allowances to trainees. Funds support 34 ISEA offices for selection, counseling and testing to determine trainee interest and aptitude, plus research on labor shortages. Training curricula, space, equipment and instructors are funded for DPI. Tentative approval exists for traffic rate clerks in Des Moines, with other occupations under study. Local offices are taking applications. The MDTA, signed by President Kennedy on March 15, 1962, aims to identify manpower needs and train workers for full-time jobs.
