The bulletin advises dusting with 10 percent Sevin in a 15 foot band from buildings or using 2 tablespoons of 50 percent Sevin in a gallon of water to spray outside. Do not spray or dust indoors. Sweep or vacuum millipedes and place them in hot water or fuel. Soybeans show 25 percent losses. corn is dented and drying, with few borers or root worm issues. Grains sorghum mature. forage sorghums ready for silo. Pocket gophers are active. poison barley or vegetables can bait main runways for 99 percent effectiveness. Sunglasses are not advised for night driving.

In Plymouth County August sales of United States savings bonds totaled 30 055 dollars, with an eight month county total of 458 820 dollars reaching 42 percent of the 1965 quota. Across Iowa August Series E and H bond sales topped 8 056 067 dollars, eight month total 74 895 046 dollars for 66 percent of the 1965 goal, with Series E up by over 200 000 dollars. Farm Crop Bulletin from northwest Iowa regions
Silo filling and soybean harvest dominate field activity as dry weather continues. Bean harvest now 10 to 15 percent complete, about two weeks slower than last year. Yields range 20 to 46 bushels per acre. Silo work to finish in roughly a week. Some farmers with drying facilities have started corn harvest, but widespread activity expected in about seven days. Demand for harvest hands rises with soybean work and may climb further at peak. Year round farmhand supply is nearly non existent, so farmers use family help or exchange labor. Openings for 69 married hands pay 200 to 325 dollars with most 250 to 300 plus housing. 27 single hands pay 125 to 225 with most 150 to 175 plus room, board, and laundry.
