Westfield Writeups Special Correspondence Births and Visits

Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Donald Solomon on the birth of a son Rodney LeRoy September 29 at Akron Community Hospital. Mrs Solomon is former Margery Hoffman. Several Sioux City and Merrill residents visited Westfield area families and attended events including a hardware group meeting at Jackson Hotel Sioux City. Ladies Aid will meet October 19 with Mrs Helen Ling hosting. Additional visits span Vermilion Akron and Topeka as families hosted or traveled to dam and horse show sites and other relatives bodies.

Tuesday Club Hosts and Visitors Across Local Homes

Mrs Blanch Roush will host the Tuesday Club at her sister Mrs Mabel Cooper's home. Mrs Luyn Knapp leads. Mr and Mrs Clarence Stevens and Cheryl of Sioux City spent Sunday with Ina Stevens. Arnold Hamman and children of Sioux City visited Rosenhaim home Sunday. Mrs A W Hummel attended Linger Longer Club at F C Bendixon LeMars Tuesday. Abe Van Steenwyk of Sioux City visited John B Schoep. Mrs M Lower visited daughter Harold Jammerthal.

Largest Luther League Rally at Preston Church

The Luther League of St. John's American Lutheran church in Preston township drew 205 attendees from 14 Western Iowa congregations for a Pall Rally themed Follow Me. Wartburg College student Robert Vogel delivered the main address, with Kenneth Utesch presiding, a banquet hosted by Rev. H. Dirks and Rev. Luther Moyer, and a pageant The Church Through the Ages showcasing church history and perseverance of the gospel.

Portland Pals 4-H Club Holds First Meeting of Year

The Portland Pals 4-H Club met at Myrna Jo Klemme’s on Monday night October 3 to elect officers and plan activities. Officers chosen: President Pat Henrich, Vice President Karen Johnson, Secretary Kathleen Hummel, Treasurer Tone Hoagland, Historian Judy Kay Kenny, Reporter Ruth Ann Dowling, Recreation Leader Caroline Hasenbank. Fourteen to sixteen members attended, with five new members joining and plans for November 7 meeting at Caroline Hasenbank’s to prepare portfolios. members asked to bring fabric pieces and 40 cents.

South Dakota hosts third annual State University cheer clinic

More than 600 cheerleaders and advisors from 109 communities in four states attended Vermillion's October 8 clinic led by John B. Van Why. Herb Loken, former Minnesota head cheerleader, conducted instruction and a mass halftime demonstration at the University of South Dakota football game. Visiting groups enjoyed a meal and game, with local participants listed from Akron and Westfield.

1956 ACP Program Approved for Plymouth County Farmers

Iowa approves its 1966 ACS program with broader scope and flexible operations. Plymouth County will receive a share based on acreage and erosion needs, with 21 cost sharing practices including two new ones for vegetative cover and erosion control. Municipal and farm groups prepare to roll out the plan locally after November district meetings.
