Mrs Woodie Nylund and sons attended the fall festival at Gurney s Wanx station in Yankton Wednesday. Mr and Mrs Bill Reynolds of Le Mars and Mrs Rose Johnson and children of Akron were Thursday evening visitors at the Eddie Lewison home. Mrs Raymond Hamilton called on Mrs Harm Fisher Friday afternoon. Mrs Walter Heyl and daughter Lavon spent Wednesday at the Henry Busch home. Mr and Mrs Clarence Wagner and family were callers at the Eddie Lewison home Wednesday evening. Albert Hamilton was a caller at the Dick Hamilton home Sunday afternoon. Mr and Mrs Albert Lewison and family and the Shuck boy spent Sunday at the Eddie Lewison home. Mrs C W Peterson of Flasher ND and Grandma Fickbohm spent Sunday at the George Fickbohm home. A large crowd gathered at the Lever Sommervold Jr home Saturday to remind them of their silver wedding anniversary. They spent the afternoon and evening in a pleasant social manner. Guests from a distance were The Martin Sommervold family and Miss Esther Sommervold of Denver CO and Mr and Mrs Ludwig Sommervold and family from Illinois. Mrs Martha Barington is spending a few days with her daughter Mrs Dick Hamilton. Ball Bros had hogs on the Sioux City market Tuesday. Harry and Julius Ball motored to the city to see them sold.
Bonnie Thornton visits from CCC camp then returns to Guthrie Center Ia. Mrs Rose Burke Edith Bergum spend weekend with Akron relatives. Mrs M P Spaulding hosts Ladies Aid. Ed Kane Alma move to West Hotel apartment. Teachers take two day district convention in Sioux City Friday. Dorothy McDougall helps Earl Bihlmeyer home Richland. Frank Welch hosts St Catharine Guild Thursday. Gerald Hilbink and baby visit Westfield kin from Holland Mich. Helen Hummel to Hastings Nebr for extended stay. John Faust Sr home weekend guests from Earlville. Joyce Hummel back to school after illness. Mary Dondelinger weekend in Council Bluffs. Webber entertain Hilbink Seyler Emmick from Holland Mich Westfield. Harry Michael moves to Reed home southwest Westfield.
Westfield school notes detail a formal initiation of sixteen Freshman students by the Senior class led by Raymond Bockelman and Rae Hummel with Principal Lang in attendance. Ice cream and wafers were served as part of the event. The entry also notes new Royal typewriters for the Commercial department and the Typing class initiations.
The Senior class plans on ordering rings soon and the Juniors work on the play Professor Pep to be staged in Community Hall on November 1. Six weeks exams loom as teachers and students assess progress. The northwest Iowa Teachers Association meet in Sioux City October 11 draws all Westfield teachers. The Tenth grade explores a new Africa map with Ethiopian context. Home Economics notes progress in sewing by Catherine Rollins. Verda Hummel compiles poems by Edgar Guest. New Health and Dental Honor Roll members are named. pupils advance in arithmetic and early routes maps. Several grades report absences, recoveries, and store project plans. The Sioux City P T A play Lady Be Brave with proceeds appeals for a local organization.
A week ago a birthday surprise marked Mrs. E. Oemig's seventy second birthday at her daughter Mrs. May Fursee's home with about thirty guests. Attendees traveled from Akron, Linton, Merrill, LeMars and Sioux City. Miss Vivian LePool of Spink spent a weekend at home and teaches at Happy Hollow school. The Avery Small children in Akron have a strong Sunday school record at the Baptist church. Local youths plan a Sunnyside play on October 18 to raise funds for a local cause.
Christian Endeavor reports a Sunday program at 6 45 focusing on World Vision of Jesus and a message to youth titled Man and His Capital by Rev Johnson. A county C Ti rally will be held Sunday October 20 at 3 p m through the evening in the local Christian church inviting public, especially young people.
