Westfield Congregational Ladies Aid meets October 6 at 2 pm with hostesses Buryanek Nelson and Moffatt and program on lay mission. Harvest Supper thanked patrons. No October PTA meeting. Amateur Show October 1 at 7:30 pm in Westfield Community School auditorium. Proceeds support Westfield Public Library. Tuesday Club Sept 27 notes two programs for Oct 26. Education focus includes Armed Forces and Eastern Question lessons. St Catherine Guild meets Oct 13 at Joellen Tobe home for annual officer election. Mrs. Cora Main to celebrate 108th birthday October 9. Akron Westfield C O to host Communion breakfast Oct 9 after Mass. Catholic Daughters meet Oct 3 at 8:00 pm.
Max V. Jacobson, manager at Sioux City, led F L B associations from Iowa Nebraska South Dakota and Wyoming at a two day convention in Omaha on September 22 23. Over 100 representatives attended from four states as part of the Highridt Federation of Federal Land Bank Association Monsey and Fieldmen. Speakers included W Donald Schreller and Dr Donald C Clifton with more noted figures from Omaha and Topeka. The Sioux City unit serves Plymouth Woodbury Monona and Pocahontas counties in Iowa and Knox county in Nebraska. Calves Triplet calves were born to a Brown Swiss cow named Perfect Atyet on Sept 11. The Akron Community School paper lists staff including Editor in Chief Becky Orris and Sports Editor Nancy Taylor. It covers October events, FFA and FHA activities, a senior interview, football results from Gehlen, Meurice Orange City, Boyd/Hull, and upcoming Homecoming with West Lyon and a soap-admission gimmick for the B squad game.
The Library Club met September 26 at Echoo library and elected Nancy Robson president Patty Muateom vice president and Jeanne Melania reporter. Members include Patty Buys Toni Buys Carol Kericks Dianne Harvey Sue Horton Bette Lamoureux Linda Nygard and Darius Willer. The Several Year by Laura Nelson Baker was reviewed by Nanney Robson.
A report from Iowa cites over 126000 handicapped placements since 1946 by the Iowa State Employment Service and notes skilled employment gains. The 1966 results show 4879 handicapped workers placed, with commissioner Henry E. Carter praising service staff and stressing self sufficiency and productive employment despite disabilities.
Regular Town Council session called to order by Mayor Pro Tem Clarence Hummel with council members present Kitstrom Philips Packer and Trotzig Absent Mayor Adams. Beer permit issued to Order No 2236. Ernest W. Bacon of the Des Moines IRS district explains refunds for gasoline used on farms are no longer filed on Form 2240. Credits for gas tax refunds will appear on annual income tax returns beginning after June 30, 1965, on Form 1040 for individuals and Form 1120 for corporations, with Form 843 if quarterly refunds reach $1,000 or more. Elmer Petersen mentions a giant garden cucumber weighing over several pounds and measuring 25 inches.
The Tribune urges caution as autumn sparks child curiosity about flames. The American Insurance Association notes many fires start when fires are left unattended, putting children at risk. Last year about 12 000 people died in house fires nationwide, including 2 100 children.
