Remembering a Dakota blizzard of 1888 in Jerauld County
The recollection recalls January 13 1888 when Coleman Harrington and neighbor Adolphus Barber planned to travel to Wessington Springs. A boil kept Baker home, possibly saving others who faced the storm. Charles Hanson described riding out with cattle, while Miss Addie Knierum safeguarded her pupils by sheltering in a straw stack. her feet later required amputation.
