Winter named Plymouth cancer program chairman
Pat Winter appointed cancer chairman for Plymouth county unit of the American Cancer Society. Mrs Gilbert Winter of Le Mars is named Target 5 chairman under the national five year program begun in 1976 to reduce tobacco related disease. The appointment follows the program’s guidelines from Allan K. Jones’s national task force. Mrs Winter, born Pat Herbst in Merrill, has deep local involvement including the county fair and St John’s Lutheran Church. She and husband have one son Scott, 12, a Le Mars student. She also serves as Plymouth county cancer education cochairman since May 1977.

4-H awards night set for November 19 at Le Mars
The annual 4-H awards night will be held Saturday November 19 at 8 00 p m in the Le Mars Community junior high school auditorium. Plymouth county extension director Randy Peter Sohn says the program honors 4-H members with county awards for achievements. Highlights include 50 outstanding junior 4-H club member awards for ages 9 10 and 11 plus a master cattle feeder trophy named for top advanced cattle feeder project in 1977 donated by Le Mars Hatchery and Feed Inc. Final ribbon placings and jackets from the Plymouth county cattlemen's association will be presented to all completing the project.
