Residents voiced disappointment at low turnout for Thursday’s community meeting while praising speakers Dr. Trotzig and John Boowman for sharing Akron insights. The note urged involvement, highlighted local progress, and urged support for CROP volunteers and early Christmas shopping at local stores.
In Chatsworth last weekend visitors from Leeds Lennox and Sioux City paused at local homes. Charles Hendricks celebrated a birthday with daughter Margaret Small while Christine and Eric Carlson stayed with great grandparents. Ed Repp attended a wedding in Princeton with wife. Adelia McCarty home in Neola restored electricity after sixty years, 1916 wiring, 1924 fire, now electric.
Darwin Minnesota hosted the October 26 wedding of Miles Thomas Brown and Rhonda Jane Swisher on the Spaulding farm north of Westfield. The couple now farm with Mrs Spaulding and Robert Michael and will reside in Minnesota. Mrs Brown is a former teacher from Mankato State College. Also noted: Joellen Toben completed 2100 hairstyling hours and will seek state licensure. a Westfield School Board meeting is set for November 14 at 7 30 p.m. and the Westfield girls basketball team hosts West Lyons at 6 30 p.m. Local birthdays and visits are mentioned along with farm and service station transfers.
Iowa State University reports a fall record of 19,914 students, up 640 from 1971 and with women surpassing 7,000 for the first time at 7,540. Akron area and Westfield area students are listed by names, including Bradley Anderson, Vikki Benda, Karen Brodie, and others, among the 18 and 4 students respectively.
Jean Vreugdenhil a freshman at Augustana College Akron Ohio is volunteering in Sioux Falls through the Augustana Student Volunteer Services. S.V.S. a student originated program offers over 100 positions to meet community needs and broaden education. Jean works at Christ The King elementary school as a tutor.
Alvin Sommervold expresses gratitude for the messages, gifts, flowers, and hospital care. He thanks Pastor Roy for visits and prayers, doctors Trotzig Leafstadt Johnson and Kelly, and the entire staff. He also thanks neighbors who helped finish picking his corn.
Mr and Mrs W L Mitchell returned home after a month in Fairfield Bay Arkansas enjoying Ozark fall beauty. Alan Matkin and son Chris left Van Nuys California after two weeks with Alberta Markin and others. Sibyl Campbell returned from Phoenix two weeks with Kirk James Campbell baptism and met Joyce Wiles Mary Mead Glendale and Allis Osnarwitz Pueblo. Mildred Meske visited California Texas Arizona relatives. Herman Dirks El Paso Vernon Sayles Arnold Amundsen greet Akron folks. J J Arkin Sioux City former Akron merchant visited friends and former associates.
An open house will be held Sunday November 17 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Akron Community School building with student guides, a 40 minute tour, coffee and cookies. Superintendent Chas E Eskra praises the new facilities for flexible curriculum development. Visitors should use the main west entrance unless rain. wet weather parking details follow. The school board meeting is postponed to November 21 due to the annual convention.
