The Register-Tribune’s job department finished printing 500 cook books for the Union Creek Lutheran Ladies Aid. A citizens meeting discussed grading unpaved streets, forming a committee to push the project. Rock Valley High defeated A.H.S. 13 to 0. Akron Booster Club held its first meeting at Trinity Lutheran church basement. Fine weather aided rapid corn progress as about 35 Masonic brethren attended a corn husking bee for TH. F. feradiey who had been ill.

November club events and sports schedule posted

A list of local activities includes a library club meeting on November 14 at 7:00 p.m. and basketball games with Jefferson on November 19 and LeMars on November 26. A football banquet is set for November 20 and Thanksgiving falls on November 28.

Health classes covered both physical and mental effects of alcohol. Students explored why teens drink, noting attention seeking as a common motive. Last Friday two films were shown about alcohol, one a case history of alcoholism and the other detailing alcohol types and brain impact.

At a November 7 meeting Pep Club members decided to buy red blouses to distinguish the group and ensure a uniform appearance during the basketball season. The club will sit in a reserved section at home games.

Home Ec Classes Study Meat and Sewing Units

Autumn Serenade Opens Friday Night In Local Band Plans

The F F A boys will initiate Chapter Farmeara soon with qualifications in farming programs and discussion leadership. A new Wenger Sousaphone Chair stands add to the band room. Fall band concert Autumn Serenade is Friday November 22 with Paul Johnson trumpet solo and ensembles led by students. Admission is free. Lessons cover money problems and basic operations while Physics moves from Force to motion.

FFA Hayride Delights AHS Students At Hebeler Farm

A Friday hayride sponsored by the FFA drew many AHS students to the Raymond Hebeler farm in South Dakota. Students met at the ag room for 7:00 pm departure aboard three hayracks. Chaperones Mr. Goudge and directors oversaw the route while tractors manned by Mr. Murrell, Mr. Mellor, and Mr. Hoffman operated. A hay-fight occurred, a rack lost hay, and a flat tire occurred, then everyone enjoyed a bonfire with hot dogs and pop.

Algebra Class Starts Root Problems With Radicals

Mr Shearers advanced Algebra class shifts from complex fractions to computing square roots and simplifying problems containing radicals. Students practice breaking down radicals, identifying perfect squares, and applying simplification rules to obtain clean radical forms.

Algebra I Students Explore Sign Numbers and Polynomials

Three Algebra I classes study signed numbers with emphasis on negatives. They begin multiplying monomials by polynomials to solve equations.

Student Council Updates and Handbook Project

Committee reports on the handbook have been handed in to Sandy Sypherd. A committee is assembling the handbook. The Council sponsors selling small AHS pins, contact Sharon Fletcher to buy. On November 4 the Student Council discussed student complaints and plans to solve them. During conferences, council members ushered at both schools.

Freshmen study space travel and moon shot plans

General Science students explore space travel topics including weightlessness cosmic rays and atmospheric challenges. Target dates cite 1965 for lunar program and 1967 for landing. Sophomores work on engines replacing rings laps and bearings while other projects proceed. Alan Hemmingsen and Clark Van Donge plan Are Welding Award entries. Freshmen carpentry includes feed banks hog troughs. Ag III aims to self propel a combine by replacing worn parts.

P E Classes Combine Trampoline And Volleyball Drills

In the eleventh week of school PE classes focus on trampoline routines and volleyball play. Students practice knee drop and other layouts on the trampoline while others volley with emphasis on proper serving. A “daily dozen” of exercises is used, increasing per week, with 11 repetitions of each exercise and 22 sit-ups and 22 knee-bends this week.

Evashevski to Lead 1964 Easter Seal Campaign in Iowa

Forest Evashevski, athletic director at the State University of Iowa, named state chairman for the 1964 Easter Seal Campaign to rally over 5,000 volunteers in March. The Iowa Society for Crippled Children and Adults sponsors the drive, funding Camp Sunnyside and statewide services. Two pumpkins, 130 and 119 pounds, displayed at Mt. Ayr, were grown from German seed by Rodney Adams.

Scattered 4 H Club Meets for Bake Sale Plans

The Scattered 4H Club met at David Eirickson s home on November 4 1963 for a business session. Members approved a bake sale to raise extra money and set the next gathering at Jerry Johnson s house with David Rozell as co host. A Christmas party was noted with Dee as reporter.
