Huntington's disease executive director George Rosaler will speak to the South Dakota branch of the committee to combat Huntington's disease on Sunday November 14 at 1 30 pm in the Sioux Valley Education unit in Sioux Falls. He will report progress from the national office in New York and across the country.
The Cherokee community theater inaugurates its 1976 77 season with Herb Gardner's comedy A Thousand Clowns starting November 12 for a three day run. Shows are at 8 p.m. at the Cherokee community center with box office tickets from 7 p.m. Groups may reserve by calling 225 2715.
The cast of the musical comedy Where's Charley prepares for the curtain with cues and music. Harold and Helen Johnson clean Ye Olde Opera House for Akron Community Theatre's first season production. Many volunteers, including Peg McLane, Shirley Nelson, Lois Kiemme, Pat and Bob Kiemme, and Mildred Baker, support behind the scenes, with Baker noting plays take hard work but are worth the pride.
Ruth Robertson, born November 24 1895 in Le Mars, is the month’s featured resident. A former teacher who married John Roberson in 1916 and farmed near Chatsworth, she moved to Le Mars in 1958 and to Akron Nursing Home in 1972. She has a daughter Marjorie in San Francisco and three children in Akron, plus nine grandchildren and one great grandson.
IEBN Iowa Public Broadcasting channel 27 Sioux City airs a Thanksgiving holiday schedule on Nov 25 26 replacing daytime classes. Announcer Colin Coyte and time-keeper Jay Miller operate in a new Akron High School press box built by students in Industrial Arts and Vocational Agriculture classes. The 19 by 6 foot insulated structure features lighting and a video tape machine for game filming. The Red Raider emblem was painted by the Art class.
The 70th annual American Lung Association of Iowa Christmas Seals arrive in red white and blue, depicting traditional scenes. Chair H. B. Wallace notes funds will aid preventative lung disease programs and research. Audits show a decline in admin costs and total fundraising costs at 13.8 percent. Public health data link breathing disorders to 25 percent of local illnesses and respiratory problems to half of school absences.

Damey Mr and Mrs Harley Lewison of Akron visited last weekend in Minneapolis at the home of Mr and Mrs Gilman Lewison and family and with friends Mr and Mrs Randall Bridges in Hudson Wisconsin. Mrs Minnie Von Hagel of Akron returned home after two weeks with her son and wife Mr and Mrs Wayne Von Hagel of Battle Lake Minnesota where Mrs Wayne Von Hagel is recuperating at her home after a heart attack.
The University of South Dakota Vermillion student association announces Kevin Garvin of Akron as a member of the Student Health advisory committee. Scott Heidepriem, the association president, appointed the junior chemistry major to oversee and coordinate campus health services.
Barb Black of Akron will be initiated into the Arnold Air Society at the University of Iowa on November 15. The national honorary society supports ROTC, works with cancer and crippled children groups, and other service organizations. Hoschler Post auxiliary will host a broasted chicken dinner at the American Legion hall on Thursday November 11, serving from 11:30 a.m. Adults pay 2.50 and children under 12 pay 1.50. the public is invited.
Mrs. Roy A. Jones 64 of Sioux City died Monday November 8 after a long illness at a local hospital. Services were held 10 a.m. Wednesday at St Luke Lutheran with Rev Jan Bengston officiating and burial in Memorial Park cemetery. Born November 6 1912 in Stillwater Ohio she moved to Wisconsin then Ponca Nebraska where she grew up. She married Roy A. Jones on December 31 1939. he died May 23 1973. A former YWCA officer and board member she served church roles at St Luke and was a secretary treasurer and vice president in the YWCA. Survivors include son Dr Gary T of Novato California two brothers Robert of Akron and Gerhardt of Glen Ellyn Illinois two sisters Mrs John Ehmke of Ponca Neb and Mrs Larry Gilbert of Sioux City.
Chatsworth society page records dinner guests and visits at multiple homes including Mrs. Henry Collmann, Sioux City correspondent Jack Lake, and families in Fairview Hawarden and Akron. Notes include numerous Wednesday and weekend gatherings, moves to Akron, and a birthday tribute. Wes Crow, Hawarden hospital patient, died November 4 1976. funeral held at First Church of Christ Akron with sympathy offered to family.
Mrs Ella Stephens age 96 of rural Akron is progressing at Le Mars Abbey after a fall that caused a fractured disc. She spent two weeks in Akron Hospital before transfer and is now able to move about and walk to meals. Her son is state representative Lyle Stephens of Le Mars.
Mr and Mrs Harold L Burcham Jr of Blvd Station announce the engagement of their daughter Leeann Louise to Timm Merrick Banks grandson of Alvard C Banks of Westfield No wedding date has been set Both are Westfield High School graduates Miss Burcham attended Western Iowa Tech and works at Sioux City Public Library Her fiancé attends Morningside College and farms Also announced is the engagement of Karen Ann Young daughter of Mr and Mrs James E Young to Scott Banks son of Mr and Mrs Lloyd G Banks of Westfield A January 29 wedding at St Joseph Catholic Church Ellendale is planned Miss Young is a Westfield High School graduate and a secretary at American Equipment Corp Her fiancé is a Westfield High School graduate and is engaged in farming.
Airman Richard M. Rosenbaum Jr. of Elk Point finished six weeks of basic training at Lackland AFB Texas. He earned the honor graduate ribbon for academic and military excellence and will proceed to medical service training at Sheppard AFB Texas. A 1976 Elk Point High School graduate.
