A special Westfield meeting at the Bank building on November 5 opened bids for the new school building. Eight bids for general contract and electrical wiring ranged from 40,769 by B Be Short Construction Co of Sioux City to 42,500 by W C Anderson of Akron. heating and plumbing bids were led by Nemimers Co of LeMars at 63 180. The board approved sticking with original plans as the total came in under estimates, with work to proceed after Omaha and PWA approval.
Special correspondence from Milnerville reports Roy Cassen and Waldon Fry delivering cattle home after several ill animals during transit. Corn picking is active, many farmers working poll tax. Miss Lucille Maloney hired for Hancock township now teaches twenty two pupils. Local social and family visits noted, plus Milner and Garland district events and broadcasts on KSCJ.
Several families visited local homes on Sunday afternoon including the Frerichs and Johnson households. A large crowd gathered to celebrate Henry Friedrichs birthday Monday as Mr and Mrs Lambert Jeffers and daughters Marion and Sue Carol visited.
A 25 dollar reward was issued by Wallace's Farmer aid Tow in Des Moines to Fred Jahn Jr a farmer near Maurice Iowa in Sioux County following the arrest of Richard Korth William Garrett and Glen Snyder from Sioux City for stealing hens from a local farm. Police stopped the trio as they fled by car in Sioux City early morning Garrett escaped while Korth and Snyder were found with stolen poultry near Maurice. The poultry belonged to Fred Jahn who had reported the loss to the sheriff.
