Chatsworth News lists a string of social calls and visits: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ludwigs hosted in Le Mars with Colin Collmann and Tena. John Ludwigs and Jeff visited Kansas City relatives. Carl Hitzemann called on Wes Crow in Akron. Frank Crow and family traveled from Glendale to Sioux City to see relatives. multiple gatherings note birthday celebrations, card parties, and family travel to Homer Nebraska and Pipe Stone Minnesota.
Margaret Hartmann observed her 92nd birthday with an open house at Akron Nursing Home where she resides. Surrounded by eight living children, five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and relatives, she received many cards, letters, flowers, and calls. Born October 28, 1882 in Tea, South Dakota, she married Bruno Hartmann in 1901. The family moved to a farm near Akron in 1918 and later relocated after Bruno's death in 1938.
Mr and Mrs Jerry Spears and children Michelle and Keith of Sheridan Wyoming visited Mrs Spears grandmother Mrs Ethel C Harris and uncles and aunts Clarence Miller and Herb Miller for several days last week. Miss Kathy Sethacken of La Jolla California spent ten days with her aunt and uncle Mr and Mrs Fred Claesson Jr of Akron. Mrs Sophia Delperdang of Sioux City also stayed with her daughter. Mr and Mrs Steve Tonkin of Webster City were weekend guests in the home of her parents to visit their cousin and grandmother. Miss Setbacken returned home Saturday by plane.
Clair and Mr. Clair McCorkell were guests of honor at a surprise pre-50th wedding anniversary on October 27 hosted by their daughter and son in law in Azusa California. Sixty four guests attended including grandchildren and great grandchildren as gifts and well wishes were shared. The couple wed December 20 1924 in Sioux City Town.
A Westfield Community School meeting to form a Lyons club will be held November 13 at 7 30 pm. A regular school board meeting is set for November 14 at 7 30 pm. The Westfield girls basketball team faces Akron at 6 30 pm on November 12 in Akron. The Lyons clash with Westfield girls on November 15 at 7 30 pm. A Knotty Key costume party on October 30 awarded prizes to Dwayne Finch Pat Brown and Phil Beaubien among others.
Margaret Hartmann celebrated her 92nd birthday with family, songs, and birthday cake as residents and visitors gathered. The week included Halloween celebrations, meals, and table mats, plus multiple visits from local friends and relatives. Several residents have November birthdays, and a Swedish feast trip was enjoyed by Brunsville and Sioux City visitors.
USD announces Matt Trotzig of Akron among 45 undergraduate students selected for Who's Who Among Students in American colleges and universities. Selection honors scholarship leadership extra curriculars and service to the University.
The SDSU chapter of Alpha Psi Omega elected officers for 1974 75 with Patty Boik as president Richard Zimmer vice president Theresa Donley secretary treasurer Becky Bunders and Julie Reiners as workshop chairs Boni Johnson and Richard Zimmer named Cotton tail Capers chairs and Andy Trump historian The group aims to stimulate drama at SDSU.
Richard Ohnen died October 29 1974 at 72 after illness in Akron Nursing Home. Born June 4 1902 in Westfield Iowa he lived in Morris Minnesota before settling in Akron. Survived by wife Ethel two daughters Elaine Hull and Bessie Bernhardt son Chalmer Onnen brothers and many grandchildren. Also notes on infant deaths and baptisms, 4-H club news, and city nostalgia sections with historical items from 1904 to 1974.
The Vesper Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star will hold initiation practice Sunday November 10 at 2 p.m. at the Masonic Temple. The regular meeting will convene at 8 p.m. at the same location with initiation to follow.
The Board of Education postpones the next regular meeting to Thursday November 21 due to the annual convention. Other dates at the school auditorium include Thursday November 7 at 7 30 p m when the Industrial Development Corp city and school officials and community groups meet for public input.
