Akron Community School in Akron Iowa presents a 1940s style student prints page. It covers staff roles, class reports, sports notes, birthdays, and upcoming events with entries on football and basketball plans, a senior profile, and student activities across grades.
In Home Economics girls studied nutrition and prepared breakfast. Algebra solved equations with one unknown. Science Department included Physics mechanics of liquids and Chemistry ionization theory. Physical Education did exercises and played volleyball.
In Biology the students studied the plant and its parts and formed four groups to present reports. Geometry covered the six fundamental constructions and proofs by certain methods. World History explored the age of chivalry and Knighthood in flower, found very interesting.
In Algebra the Freshmen finished Unit 2 on formulas and graphs and start numbers that indicate direction. In Science the class studied heat and its uses and conducted a related activity.
Seventh grade covered dividing and inverting fractions in Math and singular plural subject verb usage in English. They chose Teen Book Club titles, watched a Health film on skin care, and took a short test. Football boys tied Vermilion 0 to 0 last Friday and were pleased not to lose. Geography finished a Beef Cattle chapter.
Fifth and sixth graders completed tests in History, with fifth on Spanish explorers and sixth on Early Greeks. Music covered musical instruments, Geography featured France and Middle Atlantic states, and health experiments included sugar yeast and flour growth. The class viewed a heart movie, observed specimens under a microscope, and had perfect spelling by six fifth and nine sixth graders.
The Social Studies class explored Yellowstone Park sights and enjoyed a film of scenes from the park. The Arithmetic class practiced long division with carrying and remainders. Thirty of thirty-five pupils earned a Junior Crusade Citation for aiding the community by sharing information with parents. Mrs Scranton’s class welcomed visitors Mrs Cyril Larson Julie Mrs Gordon Kilstrom and Miss Patricia Erickson of Indianapolis Indiana, a friend of Marsha Kilstrom.
In Social Studies the class completed their Indian Unit and in English they studied the two kinds of sentences. Health class created a height and weight chart. Reading Group I finished Streets and Roads. They planned a Hallowe'en party. Scott Hemmingsen had a birthday.
First grade students rearranged desks and renamed rows while planning a Hallo we'en party. Their store activity had pupils role play as clerks and customers. They conducted a balloon weather experiment and shared treats for Pam McConachie's birthday.

Akron High School Principal Mr. Perry announced that students received individual Iowa Test of Educational Development results from four half day sessions on September 30 and October 1. The test compares a student with classmates, grade peers, and national averages, recording scores in nine areas with a composite. Parents are urged to review their child’s pamphlet and contact the school with questions.
Sioux City hosts top wildlife photographer lecturers as the Bird Club presents the Audubon Screen Tour. November 2 features Albert Wool with Ranch and Range at North Junior High. Tickets available at local stores. season tickets include guest admissions.

Nomination committees select two ballot candidates as per the Agricultural Extension Law of 1954. The Preston Farm Bureau women gathered October 20 at Mrs. Arlen Lucken's home with 13 members. Officers and special chairmen were named for Understanding Farm Bureau Agriculture Citizenship Scholarship Music Library Local Projects Civil Defense Key Women and related roles. They planned a hobby lesson in LeMars on October 30 and noted November events, concluding with the Spirit Song. next meeting set for November 17 at Mrs. Paul Friske's home.

Plymouth County farmers with 1959 conservation reserve contracts are receiving payments. Wm. Schnepf, county ASC chair, notes most contracts have been checked for compliance over the past year. Eighty eight contracts cover 8,696 acres, out of production for approved conservation uses, with obligations continuing through contract end.
