Akron Public Library Adds New Adult Titles

The Akron Public Library announces new adult books including Women of Courage by Margaret Truman, Blind Ambition by John Dean, and Domestic Life in England by Nora Lofts. Also listed are My Parents A Different View by James Roosevelt, Sorcerer of Bolinas Reef by Charles Reich, The Race by Kate Holt, Founder's Praise by Joanne Greenberg, and The Silver Leopard by Zoe Cass among others. Birthday at Hartmann home marks 94th year

A long list of Akron and nearby residents visited Margaret Hartmann of Hartmann home in Westfield and attended her 94th birthday celebration with cake and a song. The November bulletin board was decorated by Mary Ellen Caskey and Evelyn Claesson of Friendship and Service club. Several families from Le Mars Akron Sioux City Vermillion and Brookings visited others and shared Halloween notes and tricks.

UNICEF drive thanks volunteers and contributors

Mrs Dennis Carlson thanks Shelly Mortensen Teresa Nelson Toni Nelson Kris Larsen Lisa Osterbuhr Kim Waterbury Tina Hoff Todd Hoff Mike Mortensen Jeff Huygens Hal Schuchard and Brian Osterbuhr plus many contributors for a successful UNICEF drive. A total of 120.47 dollars was sent to the U S committee for UNICEF.

Cub Scouts Hold Halloween Party in Akron

The Cub Scouts met at the Akron Legion hall on Oct. 28 for a Halloween costume party. They played games like balloon darts peanut games relay races and bobbing for apples. Den 2 and their mothers served treats as the pack met.

Union County Farm Bureau Officers Plan Annual Banquet

Union county Farm Bureau officers and directors met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Wiksen on Monday Oct. 25. President Steven Ericson conducted the business meeting. Plans were made for the annual banquet and election of officers to be held November 20 at the Alcester auditorium. Tickets will be $2.75. Guest speaker will be Michael Held.

Navy sailor to participate in Kangaroo II exercise in Australia

Navy mess management specialist third class Mark A. Olson of Elk Point, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen A. Olson, will take part aboard the USS Blue Ridge in Kangaroo II, a three week tri nation exercise with ANZUS forces. More than 32,000 personnel from the United States Australia and New Zealand participate in 40 ships and 250 aircraft testing combined operation plans in Tasman and Coral seas and eastern Australia. Olson joined the Navy in January 1974 after attending Elk Point high school.

Yankton College Invites Area Students to Senior Days Weekend

Yankton College will host its annual Senior Days November 12 to 14 on campus in Yankton South Dakota. Area juniors and seniors with parents are invited to visit, meet students and staff, learn about financial aid, and enjoy football tickets, a Friday movie, and a Saturday dance. World Community Day services mark Bicentennial event

World Community Day services led by Church Women United gather at 2 p.m. Friday at Wesley United Methodist Church Akron to emphasize interdependence and new systems for a world community. Farm Bureau women install officers and outline program

Plymouth county Farm Bureau women met October 14 for an all day workshop drawing 45 attendees. New officers and township chairs were installed for 1977, with plans for a November country store fundraiser at Koenig Armory Le Mars. The event featured health insurance, unemployment coverage, a new Iowa Farm Business magazine, and a slideshow on Farm Bureau history and philosophy.
