About one hundred ten attendees enjoyed an evening of food and social activity including fried chicken, ball games, and playful gift exchanges. Faculty and staff members pledged favors and talents to fellow teachers amid a lighthearted senior class note wishing future May treasures.
The Akron High School year wraps with Awards Day praise across multiple fields from music and athletics to journalism and shop projects. Seniors highlighted for merit tests, scholarships, and FFA leadership, while teachers and clubs showcase achievements and upcoming events.
After the Baccalaurate Services, Akron faculty hosted a coffee hour in the home economics room. Hosts Mrs Mather and Miss Brooks served as pourers. attendees included Mr and Mrs Driscoll, Mr and Mrs Siebsen, Mr and Mrs Goudge, Mr and Mrs Merritt, Mr and Mrs Mather, Mrs Lias, Mrs Campbell, Mr and Mrs Van derLee, Mr and Mrs Foreman, Mr and Mrs Rehder, and Miss Brooks. Forty two eighth graders graduated in a 3:00 p m service at Akron High School Auditorium. Pomp and Circumstance opened the ceremony as Sandra Sypher d played. Invocations by Pastor David Roy of Immanuel Lutheran. Vocalists and musicians including Barbara Lundberg Jo Lyn Tucker Sharon Dirks Jeanne Taylor performed pieces. Music awards were presented to Janice Jordahl Jeanne Taylor Paul Johnson Barbara Lundberg Sharon Dirks Neal Seipp Wanda Muth.
Akron High School track wrapped a strong season with a third in the Holstein Relays two mile relay and several top finishes at Tomahawk, Alta, and Sioux City meets. Jack Fara led the squad, earning a 3rd in the 880 and a 3rd in state qualifiers before final 3rd in Des Moines. Team members included Lindy Newman Gary Hope Jim Fara Skip Clark Tom Tucker Corbin Tindall Denny Borchers Eldon Heeren Bob Frerichs Le Roy Carlson and Jim Harvey.
The Halls of Ivy girls sextet led by Sharon Dirks and Linda Drake receive scholarships. Neal Seipp performs Sounds from the Hudson as a trumpet solo, with Frank Mather giving the graduation address and O L Scranton presenting diplomas to a large group including Sharon Dirks Linda Drake Patricia Frerichs Connie Gebauer Terry King Jerry Klemme Mark Lucken Annette Roy Neal Seipp Sharon Witt and others.
