Iowa Tornado Kills Six At Glenwood School For Feeble Minded

A powerful tornado tore through Glenwood Iowa striking the state institution for the feeble minded at about 10 p m killing six inmates and injuring eleven others. The disaster damaged the girls dormitory and surrounding buildings with total losses estimated at 75 000 for the town and 25 000 for the girls building and 50 000 for Des Moines area. Among the dead are Georgia Blakely and Herbert Rhodes.

Double Disaster and Murder Plot News Fragments

Fragmentary 1900s style clippings report a morning wreck near Six Mile Creek injuring several. Thomas Fisher of Plymouth killed, an engineer killed, hospital care described. Also noted are a big murder plot involving Italians, a doctor in New York taking his life, Italians in a shooting affray, and Korea ordering arrests of land sellers to Russians and Chinese.

Oklahoma cloudburst devastates towns west of Enid

Dispatch from Tod Oklahoma reports a midnight cloudburst west of Enid raining $200,000 in damage estimates. Three foot water flooded bottoms, sweeping houses and wrecking buildings. Enid saw 1100 homes submerged and hundreds homeless as rescuers worked all night. Oklahoma City endured record rainfall with $100,000 in damage and fears of a tornado.

Fire destroys Front Street Warehouse building in Philadelphia

A major blaze at the Front Street Warehouse Company on North Front Street, Philadelphia, caused estimated losses above $1,000,000. The three story front and five story rear structure housed merchandise from many firms. Building owned by Jacob Wiseman, valued at $63,000. Three firefighters injured, two with fractured shoulder blades. Underwriters could not confirm exact insurance coverage.

State troops deployed to Breathitt County for peace

About 150 Kentucky state troops from Lexington were sent to Breathitt County to maintain order during the investigation into the killings of Dr. Cox, Jim Cockrell, and J. Marvin. The troops will hold John Curtis Tet under court jurisdiction until January 4, with surrender to Jackson authorities for trial if indictments are returned.

Garbed M. Kentoont an Armenian silk weaver was found stabbed to death in his New York home. The room was ransacked, door bolted from inside, and three bloodied knives were found on the floor. Neighbors recalled he had lived there for over twenty years.

Terrific Storm of Hail Strikes Remsen Iowa

A severe hailstorm hit Remsen in northwest Iowa on Sunday, lasting about seven minutes. Hail varied from pea to hen egg size, driven by a west wind, damaging windows and storefronts. Farmers north of town reported heavy losses with cattle drowned and about one third of the growing corn crop destroyed.
