Iowa sets spring plan for weekend patrols and sobriety
State Safety Commissioner Donald M. Statton announces a new pattern for traffic safety in Iowa with 275 highway patrol on road duty every Friday and Saturday and two thirds on Sunday. Shifts may last until 3 a.m. in some areas to cover late night taverns. The plan concentrates 20 to 25 patrolmen in each county one day weekly and requires minimum two hour license checks. Patrol will suspend licenses prior to trial for drunken driving and use shuttle patrols on regular primary duty.

Spectacular Dakota-All Americans airborne drill to test STRAC plans
A reinforced unit from the 82d Airborne Division at Fort Bragg will join Minneapolis 440th Wing para troopers to stage a mass parachute assault near Sioux Falls on June 18 at 10:00 am. The exercise marks South Dakota's first scheduled paratrooper drop and tests STRAC readiness with 300 troopers, 75,000 pounds of gear, and C-119 Flying Boxcars and C-124 Globemaster aircraft.
