The notice lists subscription rates for four years at $2, six months at $1, and three months at 50 cents. It states the paper is published every Thursday in Akron Iowa and is entered at the local post office as second class matter on September 26, 1901.
Union Creek notices show no church service this Sunday due to Baccalaureate events at Akron and Alcester. The Ladies Aid meets Thursday afternoon May 24 at Mrs. Milton Ericson. Cemetery Day is set for Tuesday May 29 with a 6:30 p.m. supper. Community members attend meetings, visits, and rites. local dinners and conversations are noted along with a missionary talk by Anna Wendell and a June wedding announcement.
Chatsworth Special Correspondent reports Roy Vanderham lost a new truck spring between here and Akron. Frank Wakeman and daughter Mildred and Frank Bonney of Akron visited Mrs Bonney here. The New Century club met with Mrs E H Johnson, with Mary Schumacher as leader, then a light lunch. Helen Vanderhan. operation in Sioux City. Audie Degan's mother and relatives visiting. The ninth grade class play Where's Grandma was well received. Crow children enjoyed a Sunday picnic. Chris Scheffen and wife visited in Sioux City. Carl Specht of Lincoln Nebraska was here.
A Hawarden visit by Mrs. Chris Scheifer is noted after a call on Monday due to her husband’s ill father. The group including Bill Kelley Geo Setdfer and Seal Van Sidkle enjoyed a fishing trip at the Lakes. The Chris Scheiffen family visited the John Berner home in Hawarden Sunday evening.
Special correspondence from Adaville notes Rev. and Mrs. Hollingshead and Mr. and Mrs. Johnson hosting, and attendance at Billy Sunday meetings. Measles strike several, school ends, and five Adaville youths graduate at Akron this year amid family visits and church changes.
A Mother and Daughter banquet at the U B church basement in Adaville drew about seventy five guests Friday evening. Mrs Frank Gabel led the program with a three course menu by the Brotherhood class and a sequence of songs prayers and poems. The evening featured a main address by Mrs L H Seager of LeMars and a memorial word for Mrs Frances Jane Fleming of Edmond Okla. Mrs Fleming died April 18 after a long illness, leaving husband Rev L A Fleming and five daughters. Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian church in Edmond.
Mrs Mary Wall returns from Carroll visit. Guild meeting chosen for May 24 at Mrs Harry Nason home. Two act play by St Catharines Guild May 22 with lunch to follow. Admission adults 26c children 15c. Various social events including showers, picnics, a mis cellaneous shower for Miss Eva Bliss, and a band of Brazilian Indians at Riversioux. Westfield baseball wins 9 to 7 against Presto Cafe Sioux City. next game May 20 vs Akron. Commencement May 25 for Westfield High with 12 graduates. Community Hall events include Perplexing Situation and two act play. proceeds to St Catharine's Guild. Various visits, socials, and family news throughout the community.
The evening of entertainment advertised for Thursday May 17 at the Community Hall in Westfield has appears to be in doubt as details remain unclear and readers await further notices.
Mrs Richard Ball and family along with Mr and Mrs Bill Bohlen and families left for Breckenridge Missouri to visit parents for Mother's Day then returned midweek Orville Welch came home from Akron Hospital Sunday afternoon much improved after surgery with several friends visiting in the afternoon including Howard Nielson and Irene John.
Mildred and Avis Hensley, Bert Swanson, Will Welch of Elk Point, and the Mortis young folks shared Mother's Day at the Wm Kerr home in Akron. Marjorie Holmquist was a supper guest at Harvey Welch’s, then departed for her home near Centerville, South Dakota, after finishing a visit.
Howard Nielson and Irene Johnson spent Sunday at Clarence Andrews home. Hugo Granstrom and family were Sunday guests at Earl Heasley home. Mrs Id Heeren and Elmer were Sunday guests at Wes ley Heeren home.
