Convict Stabs Guard at Leavenworth Prison Mass Hall

Devastating Fires Hit Texas And Georgia Coast to Coast

Fire in southern Parise Texas damaged about $2 million, destroying 30 blocks of homes and businesses near the cotton compress. Des Moines Hosts Large Lay Missionary Convention

New Interurban Line Opens Between Muscatine and Iowa City

Keokuk Saloon Keeper Fined Under Liquor Law

Philip Nickel, a Keokuk saloon keeper, was found guilty by a district court jury of violating the local liquor law by selling a glass of beer. He was fined $50 and costs with an appeal bond set at $150. Trial followed an indictment returned by the grand jury on January 19.

Des Moines reports Hubert Eaves an 11 year old boy expelled from public schools for refusing to salute the flag on religious grounds. Judge C A Dudley ordered nine years in reformatory but suspended sentence and paroled him to his father with a promise to seek education equal to state requirements.

City and town officials will not permit operation on 1915 plates after April 1. The state department can issue new plates swiftly and all cars must be registered before April 1 regardless of use. Registration demand is rising with 2,000 applications daily. Des Moines allows ballot write ins to avoid listing candidates on March 27 ballots in many towns.
