Scattered 4 H Club and Homemakers meet in March notes

The Scattered 4 H met March 12 at Terry Kiose's home with pledge and a talk by Orinda. Future meeting set for April at Judy Boeck's home. Elk Point area farm bureaus plan a March 26 open legislative meeting at Elk Point City Auditorium with lunch and discussions on Pierre session bills. The Liberty-Johnson Homemakers discussed poetry, foods, abalone lessons, Irish songs, American Indians, and farm tax concerns. The Friendship and Service Club met March 8 at Ramona Vander Helm's with fondue lunch and Federation stationery orders. The Town and Country Champs held a February 26 meeting at Cavyl Smith's home with reports on training, Iowa 4-H United Service Month, and a $5 donation to IFY. adjourned after 4-H pledge.

Akron Senior Citizens met at the Legion Hall with musical entertainment. Deborah Miller received bridal shower gifts. Immanuel Union Creek youths announce their annual Youth Banquet March 29 featuring Randy Peters from Sioux City. Wendi Johnson hosts and Monica Vreugdenhil assists. Fried chicken banquet proceeds go to high school seniors. tickets $1.25.

Tryouts for Neil Simon comedy Come Blow Your Horn drew a good turnout under directors Norbert Isert Mary Lou Mitchell and Nancy Reed who announced the cast including Alan Gene Knudsen Buddy Loren Nielsen Mrs. Baker Roberta Dirks Mr. Baker Paul Woskoff Connie Carla Macfarlane Peggy Kay Schoenfelder Practice has begun. The show is slated for the last weekend in April at the pound with volunteers urged to contact directors for help.

ASCS offers acreage measurement and inspection aid

The Agri cultural Stabilization and Conservation Service sets measurement and inspection services at cost to help Union county farmers certify acreages and set aside land. Trained ASCS staff stake and reference to prevent penalties from certification errors and to prove yields. Services are available by phone, mail or in person at the Elk Point office.

Livestock Feeders Banquet Set for March 31 at Alcester

The Union County Livestock Feeders Association will hold its annual banquet on March 31 at 6 50 p m in the Alcester City Auditorium. Featured speaker is Art Soga Extension Marketing Specialist SDSU with years in marketing including service as manager of Farmers Co op Grain Elevator Brookings. Obituary of Leo Charles Larson

Leo Charles Larson born June 24 1991 in Alcester died March 15 1973 at age 41 years 8 months 21 days. He married Doris Jacobs July 2 1952 in Union Creek Lutheran Church near Akron and had four children Blake Rhonda Marlene and Leasa. He served in the European Occupation Force from 1952 to 1954 and farmed southeast of Alcester thereafter. He belonged to Peace Lutheran and Union Creek Lutheran Churches and the Alcester Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his wife two daughters three sons his mother Mrs Edersprung of Pomona California his foster parents Oscar F Anderson and Mia Anderson of Alcester plus other relatives. Funeral March 19 at Union Creek Lutheran Church with Pastor David J. Roy officiating. Interment in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Akron Library Tests Portable Copier Service Inquiries

The Akron Library borrowed a portable photo copier to gauge demand for copies of magazine pages patterns and craft directions. New adult titles include Nethergate and The Eiger Sanction along with works by Cookson Hintze and Eden. Four Elizabeth Seifert titles and an Emilie Loring release add to the collection, plus eight Hardy Boys mysteries Dr Seuss and five beginner books for children.

Wanda Kessel of Le Mars visited her mother Jessie Warner Monday. Edith Burrow celebrated her 92nd birthday Monday March 12. Margaret Krenz marked her 82nd birthday March 13 with a party hosted by Mona Smith and others. Numerous relatives and friends visited residents, shared meals, and joined in prayers and hymns in the lobby. Spring rains, St Patrick’s Day place mats, and a program of hymns and Psalms were noted.

Death of Mrs John Adair 62 Former Akron Resident

Mrs Thelma Adair 62 of Huntington Park California died apparently of a heart attack. Funeral and burial were March 9. Survived by husband two sons Harry and John grandchildren a brother and two sisters. The family lived in Akron in the early 1950s before moving to Sioux City and later California. She was a native of Fairbury Nebraska and a member of the United Methodist Church and the PEO Sisterhood.
