Inferno at Boone Poor Farm Fire Kills Four Inmates
A three story brick building at Boone poor farm burned with a boiler or faulty wiring blamed for the blaze. Four aged inmates perished on the third floor: Mrs. Sing Oberg 55 Detles Becker 36 John Allen 36 Pete Peterson 65. Sixty six others escaped in night clothing as proper fire protection was absent and the Boone fire department was not alerted. Mrs. Oberg supposedly rushed back into the flames to save valuables and was never seen again. Six inmates from Story county poor house, recently destroyed by fire, were among those in the Boone institution. Extra session ordered for April 16 in Washington.
