Lieut Colonel Green Reports on Brest Port Work in Army Service

Lieut Colonel Frederick W Green former head of transport for the 12th Engineers told St Louis Railway Club about building Brest into a major port for American troops. He described rapid ship unloading, the spread of railroad trucks over marshy land, and how Brest and St Nazaire evolved to support millions of tons of supplies. He recalled the London march, English morale, and the need to speed up homeward troop movements as 150000 to 176000 troops were being sent back each month.

Y M C A. workers tell of war front service and escape

Frank M. Van Epps a seriously wounded Y M C A. worker recounts front line duty in Alsace and Argonne. He survived a torpedo strike near Wales on the Oronze and later slept in a barn while shells fell. He was a stretcher bearer in the St Mihiel drive and fought through four fronts with the Fifth Division. Paris reports rapid army educational progress as Y M C A. post schools grow and textbooks arrive.
