Akron TOPS 893 Club Meeting Recaps Weight Loss Progress

The Akron TOPS 893 club held a regular weekly meeting on Wednesday evening February 25. The group presented the official TOPS song and pledge. Reports from the secretary and treasurer were read and approved. The best adult loser declined. the top loser shed 34 pounds. Yearly total weight loss averages 26 pounds with the monthly best loser down 4 pounds. Next week an election of new officers will determine the upcoming terms. The Alcoholism center in Le Mars sponsors Center Nights each Tuesday at 8:00 PM at Floyd Valley hospital. March 2 film Father Martin's Chalk Talk was rescheduled after late arrival. two other films were shown. The center invites the public to see the film, meet counselors, and learn about the center. The event is part of ongoing center activities. Also noted is ISU extern program with Kay Henrich and Carol Larson of Akron, hosting ISU students during spring break to gain real-world career experience in fields like dentistry and law. various sponsors and cooperating groups are involved. Nursing home visitors and activities in Westfield

Community residents visited friends and relatives at the nursing home in Westfield including Mr and Mrs Charlie Harris and daughter Marcie from Westfield, Glen Horton from Sioux City, Minnie Postlewait, Gertie Brown from Merrill, and many others. Second place in Iowa writing contest awarded to Jill Tindall

Jill Tindall of Akron earned second place in the 1976 Ability Counts writing competition for Iowa junior and senior high students. Sponsored by the Iowa Governor's Committee on Employment of the Handicapped, the awards include a $50 bond from the Scanlon Medical Foundation and the Iowa Medical Society. Jill is a Akron Community High School senior, daughter of Rollin and (Mrs) Tindall of rural Akron. Cheryl Manderschied of Maquoketa won first place, receiving a three-day Washington DC trip and a $100 bond.
