Supreme Court grants states full jurisdiction over Big Sioux fishing
The Supreme Court confirms that both Iowa and South Dakota have broad jurisdiction over navigable rivers, reaching from the middle of the river to the opposite bank. Wardens anticipate stricter enforcement of nets and trot lines, with penalties for violators. The ruling aims to level fishing access but may intensify prosecutions as authorities pursue cases after water subsides.

May chop off trains as railroads weigh fare laws
Unofficial reports circulate that the Chicago Milwaukee St Paul Railroad may discontinue morning and evening passenger trains between Sioux City and Sioux Falls, possibly July 1, as railroads cut operating costs ahead of Iowa’s new 2 cent passenger fare law. Sunday trains may also be dropped. Milwaukee intends to revert to current schedule after a brief halt. The change could boost revenues by attracting more riders to the cheaper service. In Akron, the main news is the sale of two Third and Reed streets lots to Fred Paterson by Frank Bolmer, now housing Akron Hardware Co. A plan seeks a double brick block with Nations Bank on the corner and Alan Hardware Co in rear, to be erected soon for occupancy before warm weather.
