Weekend visits and community notices in Hawarden area

Over the weekend Mr and Mrs Guy Minor visited relatives in Russell Minnesota and did some fishing. Sunday visitors included Mr and Mrs Charles Krough and Mr and Mrs Lawrence Gagnon of Vermillion, and others in Hawarden. Various local engagements are noted including Ladies' Aid on July 1 and Rev C S Elbe’s selection as Congregational Council delegate. Summer Music Camp attendees Addie Jane and Carolyn Lilly travel to the University of South Dakota. Harrington Garage will close July 1 to 10. Several Sioux City and South Dakota residents gather for Father’s Day and Grace Methodist reunion. Public library hours announced after smoke damage repairs and shelving updates.

Community Library Seeks Help With Summer Hours

Norman Weber polio patient plans visit home bringing portable respirator for safety. Community club met June 18 with pleasant evening and lunch. Perry Hancock 4-H tour June 17 toured member homes with a picnic at Pavlik dam. Deer sighting delighted youths driving into the park. Calves judged at most homes as Nuss and Crouch instructed on show handling. Belle Vista Sunday school held a picnic at Hancock township hall June 20 with Rev Orris in attendance.

Ron Wan attended as an honored guest and gave a very interesting talk before lunch was served. The remainder of the day was spent visiting.

North Iowa Methodist Conference Report Closes

Rev Donald H James returned from the 94th annual North Iowa Conference in Sioux City where over six hundred ministers and lay members attended. The northern half of the state covers 427 Methodist churches with district superintendents reporting 145 716 members and 7264 baptisms last year. Mission giving and benevolence activities were noted.

Ordination and retirements mark church year rise

Report notes the church’s financial figure at 871 515 dollars an increase of 34 214 over the prior year. Nineteen young men were ordained to the ministry on Sunday and eleven ministers were granted retirement as the church continues its Con.

Ten New Churches and Four Parsonages Built This Year

The conference report notes ten new churches and four parsonages completed in the past year. The conference adjourned Wednesday at noon with Bishop F Gerald Ensley reading the appoint ments.
