1966 Wheat Price Support Rate Announced

The U S Department of Agriculture announced a minimum price support for the 1966 wheat crop of not less than 1.81 per bushel nationwide, per Henry J Ahlers, chairman of Plymouth County ASC Committee. The rate applies in Iowa and other wheat states if growers approve marketing quotas in the referendum on June 28. For 1956, the figure reflects 76 percent of the estimated transitional wheat parity.

Wheat price support and quotas referendum update

The article outlines price support rules for 1956 crop wheat with a minimum national average of $1.81 per bushel, contingent on July 1 1956 parity figures. If two thirds of growers approve the June 26 referendum marketing quotas stay in effect and prices stay above $1.81 for compliant farmers. If rejected quotas lapse, support falls to about $1.19 with ineligible producers excluded. The piece also mentions penalties for over allotment and a church notice in Westfield Congregational Church activities.
